The Dartmouth Association of Oregon held its annual picnic at Samuel H. Martin's summer place at Mount Hood on the banks of the Salmon River at Wemme, Oregon. All alumni, students, prospective students, parents, wives, and children were invited. All told there were about 35 adults and nine children, which made a good-sized aggregation, large enough to keep activities at an interesting pitch and to make a very successful picnic.

Sam Martin learned that four Dartmouth undergraduates were working this summer at Mt. Hood, operating the ski lift and clerking at Timberline Lodge. He made a trip up the mountain Sunday morning to invite them to the picnic. One of them was able to obtain time off to make the visit. Sunday is a busy day with hundreds of tourists trying the facilities at Timberline and Government Camp.

Michael McKeown, who entered Dartmouth this fall, was there from Coos Bay, Oregon. Peter Nieman and Gordon Evans of the class of '57 checked in with their parents and gave the picnic the undergraduate flavor. Others in attendence were: Harold and Mrs. Wendell, Sam Martin and family, John and Mrs. Ross, Dud and Mrs. Sercombe, John Butler and family, Jim Tredup and family, Ken and Mrs. Montgomery, Grover Pemberthy, Paul Hanlon and family, Robert Kendell Jr., Leon Kuhn, Edward Gulick, Tom Colt, Paul Woelfel and family, George Boylston and family, Peter and Mrs. Spaulding.
