On June 26 the Alumni Association of Oregon held its annual picnic at the farm of Arch Diack on the Sandy River about twenty miles from Portland. It was a good day and we had a splendid turnout, 41 adults and 19 children, which made the picnic very sociable. Short work was made of four turkeys that Arch barbecued over a charcoal fire, said barbecue being operated by the gravity pull of a basketful of stones suspended from one of the adjacent tall firs.
Jack Hemingway caught a few fish in the river. The rest of us sat around and talked, pitched horseshoes, and chased children.
The picture was taken at the picnic by Mrs. Ken Montgomery. Left to right are: John Ross '19, Arch Diack '29, Eric Haessler' '42, Sara Martin '27, John Storrs '42, Paul Woelfel '27, Ted Brush '44, Carl Hopkins '33, George Friede '27, Fred Sercombe '21, Bill Thomas '37, Ken Montgomery '25, Dud Sercombe '27, John Buttler '45.
