Our class has lost another of its most loyal and devoted mates. Everett Marsh, who had been fighting an heroic battle through a long illness, passed away on October 3. Ev had known the score for some time but faced the issue with the calm courage of the thoroughbred that he was. He left his wife Violet, whom many of us know, a son George, and a daughter, Mrs. Middleton of Phoenix, Ariz. His two grandsons, Everett and Steve, had made their home with them since they came to Clearwater to retire two years ago. Violet plans to retain her home at 710 So. Glenwood Ave., Clearwater, Fla. We are glad that Ev's picture was so recently available, as you will recall it in the previous issue of the MAGAZINE, but even more than that, Ev will be remembered for what he was.

HURRICANE NEWS ... Many away from New England may not realize the devastating visits of two recent hurricanes yclept Carol and Edna - big girls both. The third called Hazel passed us by with thanks. Mike Stearns, who was at Point of Woods, L. 1., paints a touching but humorous picture of Annis and himself wading through the waves for a quarter of a mile to get to safety. Their daughter Nancy, who lives on higher ground, took in 116 refugees of all ages and descriptions within four hours. Art Wyman lost one of his prize ellums up in Ponemah, N. H„ where in spare time, he operates a very gentlemanly farm. As for the writer, he tried for hours to bale out six inches of rising water from the cellar but gave up in disgust, with a touch of fatigue, when the lights went out - and remained out for a week. Candles may be romantic but I guess I'm beyond that stage. It was a shambles around here. Oh, well, it's all cleared up now.

Chick Currier writes of a pleasant visit with Mason Lewis in Denver a while back. Mason had just returned from the hospital following an eye operation which we all hope was completely successful. By the way, Chick and Jessie took in the Army game this fall but would rather not discuss it. They left October 26 for their winter home in California, at Pine Valley.

General of The Class Knox reports a visit to Hanover last month for Dartmouth Night where were also gathered Messrs. Hinman,Hull Everett and Hobart who gave the WahHoo-Wahs -instead of the present three grunts - for the class. Ben describes a huge bonfire built by the 763 freshmen and touched off as the Glee Club sang from the terrace of College Hall. Fine business, remember?

The Dorchester (Mass.) Beacon carries quite a story, complete with picture, of Peter McCarty who has been appointed and accepted the chairmanship of the Salvation Army's greater Boston appeal to raise over half a million dollars in their annual drive for funds. "Great work if you can get it," and we hope you do, Peter.

Park Stickney has been running around the East this fall but unfortunately for us couldn't include Boston in his itinerary, much to the regret of the local contingent - and we don't want that to happen again, understand?

Remember the "Night Before the Harvard Game" of yesteryear? Well, it's still a custom and a large crowd of Dartmouth men of all classes turned out for the cocktails and dinner at the University Club in Boston. Representing '08 were Gen Knox, Mike StearnsMort Hull and George Squier. We had a good time and of course planned the strategy which resulted in a Dartmouth victory. There should have been more of us there and doubtless there would have been if the matter had been organized, but as it is an annual affair, I, for one, will plead guilty to taking it for granted. Let this be the announcement for next year. That should be advance notice enough.

NEW ADDRESSES... There's been some movin' around but not too much. 'Course you all know that Chick Currier has gone into winter quarters at Pine Valley, Calif., and the paper says that he lives at Box 76 - bet anyone in town can tell you where that is. Then, too, Donald Comstock has moved from where he was to 2895 Van Aken Blvd., Cleveland, Ohio. George B. Lowe still lives in the same Cleveland, but elsewhere in it, specifically at 2175 Lee Blvd. Better make those changes in your little book - you never know when you might need to borrow some money.
