"1910's 45th in '55"

You have just read what should be every Tenner's slogan for the days from now until June. Our reunion committee, appointed at an executive committee meeting during the informal reunion last June, is made up of Herb Wolff, Ray Seymour and John VanderPyl. We had left it up to this trio to decide upon the chairman and that started an "Alphonse-Gaston" act. So we decided to have a meeting in New York to get organized. After a trip to Hanover for the Colgate game, your Sec took the day off, journeyed to the Big City and as Ray's guests we sat down for lunch at the club of which Ray is secretary, Downtown Athletic Club. John countered Herb's nomination of him for chairman by explaining that he has not retired and has a job which keeps him running around the USA so much that he cannot be certain of making the trip to Hanover for the reunion. We then looked at Ray and he stated his belief that since he is Andy Scarlett's New York assistant on the Alumni Fund, it would not be wise for him to be in the position of "approaching" Tentiers from the two fronts. After all, what could Herb say? Well, he said he certainly did not seek the honor —and the responsibility. He would take it if Ray and John assumed some of the duties and provided counsel based upon the experience of the three of them in the planning of the 40th. Of course John and Ray agreed to that, so we salute Herb as chairman and Ray as treasurer of the 45th reunion committee. These two attended a meeting a couple of days later at the Dartmouth Club, set up by the College, and attended by men from most of the classes scheduled for official reunions next June. We are assured that we have a serious-minded hard-working committee and you will be hearing from these men from now on.

The Harvard game Class Dinner brought together sixteen Tenners. There were men from several classes in attendance and the usual informal gathering gave us opportunity for an enjoyable visit. Present were: Art Allen, Maurice Blake, Charlie Fay, Ted Hill, Irv Jewett, Bones Jones, Bert Kent, Art Lord, Russ Meredith, Win Nay, Beezle Parker, Rog Pierce, Heinie Reed, John VanderPyl, Jess Wilson and Herb Woods. (Note that nearly half of this number travelled at least a few hours to attend this annual affair.) Art Allen says he has not retired but he is enjoying shifting some of the load to younger shoulders. Ted Hill is very much active with his duties in the Harvard educational program. IrvJewett surprised us by his quick comeback from the jolt he had in the early months of this year. He is back on the job. Bert Kent, though retired from his lifetime job, is getting a real kick out of his present tie-up in his South Hadley bank. Win Nay, Rog Pierce and Heinie Reed haven't announced retirement but all three appear to be taking things without undue exertion.

Charlie Fay retired from a long period with one insurance company and then took on another - just couldn't keep away from the subject. Art Lord, Bones Jones, Russ Meredith,Beezle Parker, and John VanderPyl are still doing at least a full day's work in their respective lines. Maurice Blake is keeping on in the field of education and Jess Wilson and Herb Woods are fully retired and the only real work they are doing is "around the house." There is one subject which seems to be uppermost in all their minds - "1910's 45th in '55.

All of us were saddened to learn that three of our very active Tenners were hospitalized - Larry Bankart, Hap Hinman and Slip Powers. Larry has had repairs made to his spine which promise genuine relief. Hap overtaxed his heart and was forced to be quiet in Dick's House in Hanover for several weeks, and Slip's trip was for further study to find what has been troubling him all summer. Messages were sent from the diners to all three, expressing our hope for early recovery and deliverance from hospital surroundings. Just before leaving for Boston, we received from MacKendall a clipping from the White River Junction paper, picturing Hap and his and our old friend, ex-president Hopkins. They were caught in the act of discussing the plans for new buildings for Hap's Cardigan Mountain School.

Although we have news about more Tenners, we'll have to save it for next issue because we must leave room for the list of Tenners who helped us make the showing in theAlumni Fund drive.
