Can you believe that the shell for a Dartmouth crew was purchased for 575? Four members of our class helped organize the Dartmouth Rowing Club in 1934. Tom Dufif was the coxswain of the crew, Oliver Butterworth number one stroke, and Frank Magel and Dana Prescott, crew members. They were charter members of the Dartmouth Rowing Club in 1934. They needed a shell so they got together $75 and bought a shell from Harvard. When the shell was brought to Dartmouth, the coach, Jim Smith, followed along and coached the crew. On Green Key weekend they defeated Williams in a race on the Connecticut River. The picture of the 1937 crew Hall of Fame.

Tom Duff called me and suggested that the Rowing Club should get some publicity in the Alumni Magazine athletics issue. We missed that issue, but this is a good followup.

Tom is now retired in a quiet place called Seneca, S.C., not far from Clemsen University. He had an interesting career installing mainframe computers for The New York Times, Johnson and Johnson, and Montclair St. Teachers College. Now his wife runs a PC.

How many of our classmates went to medical school and law school? Checking through our directories, I found 28 went to medical school, 29 to law school, and 10 earned Ph.D.s. The physicians are Gordon Bennett, A. Coggeshall, Quincy Fortier, John Herman, Crawf Hinman, Charles Kilgerman, C. E. Koop, Collin MacCarty, Eugene McGregory, John Milne, Seymour Ochsner, Michael Petti, John Knorr, Donald O'Brien, John Richter, Donald Ross, John Schilling, Edward Smith, Kendall Stearns, Richard Thirlby, William Thomas, Arthur Tucker Jr., J. Bradley Varnum, Thomas Walson Jr., Myron Wright, Kane Zelle, George Stock, Jean Wolfe. The Ph.D.s are Royal Abbott, Robert Finkelstein, William Heroy, Frank Irwin, Richard Newman, Harry Schultz, William W. Tongue, Anthony Turkevich, Alvin Whitehill, and Frank Young.

Look for the lawyers in the next issue. Tell me of any omissions.
