"Christmas comes but once a year, but when it comes*******"-it brings a delightful pile of "Greetings" which show that the Tenner family spirit grows steadily stronger. It is a heartwarming time for the chairmansecretary and is greatly appreciated. The "Greetings" in many cases are from the Tenner and his wife. Many carry interesting messages and comments.
For instance here is one from GuyCarpenter. He writes, "You can list me alongside Thomas Carlyle described by Henry James as 'The same old sausage, fizzing and sputtering in its own grease. My hat is off to you for your survey efforts and your civic dedication." Mac Kendall writes, "Keep well and keep your sense of humor. Those two admonitions may not be necessary but I try to follow those precepts.
From Art Lord we learn, "Here it has been pleasant and mild. The Tenners here don't get around as much as we used to but we talk on the phone or meet occasionally for lunch. Now that Dartmouth has made its two important decisions it is free to make its new plans and I hope will go ahead to make them a great success." ArtLord is one of the small number of Tenners definitely pleased with the planned changes to be developed as the result of the Trustees' important decision.
Herb Wolff, also, belongs in that group. He writes, "Hope you and other dear classmates will not ostracize me because of my coed stand. I am not on the winning side "D" is." The successful football season caught Chad Chadbourne's fancy and satisfaction. His comment: "Cecilia and I are spending another winter in Montana, making small concession to this decade of the 80's when it is a bit of trouble to go Heigh-ho. I am pleased that Dartmouth football still seems to be in good hands."
Beezle Parker writes, "Herewith my inventory. Am still driving my car and have my steel-studded snow treads on.... We did make one trip to a lobster dinner for the New Hampshire Veteran Free Masons at Sunapee Lake Park last summer visiting Norton Cushman at Shrewsbury on the way back." On his card, Art Allen tells of a phone conversation with Bones Jones, and both Art and Bones reported that Bones, who missed our fall gathering in Boston, has made a good recovery from his trouble and by now is probably enjoying the warm sun in Naples, Fla.
Mal Bissell mentions the recent Trustee decision in these words: "Dartmouth seems to have done very well in meeting the problems of this new kind of world." KenPhelps notes that he is looking forward to the basketball season in California. He says: "We will see the Dartmouth basketball game with Stanford in January. The 2 "big Indians". From Pineo Jackson we have, "The historic decision has been made at Hanover. The subjects have been so controversial and their considerations so long drawn out no doubt the final determination is welcome to most, regardless of personal views. While cherishing the memories of the Dartmouth that was, I shall accept and support the new Dartmouth with hopeful expectations."
The total number of "Greetings" represents over half the present membership of the Class.
