This writeup is being sandwiched in between Christmas and the New Year—a real challenge! May its readability be appropriate for February consumption!
George Martin, as usual, comes up with a lot of interesting data and information about '15ers he has been in contact with, dating back into November and December. We wish space herein could permit quoting a lot of it—quite illuminating! Perhaps Dale Barker's Frontiersman can use some of it!
Eben Clough regales us with numerous clippings about Bob Blackman's successful season with the Big Green and reports that Kike Richardson has been on Cloud 9 ever since. While we all regret losing Blackman to the Mid-West, we wish him the best of luck in his new connection. CalRogers, up at Newington, Conn., also emphasizes Blackman's services to Dartmouth sports-wise and the part he has played in Ivy League football.
Thornton Pray, down at Philadelphia, commented on the Big Green's versatility in the Penn. game and was particularly thrilled by the second and third string players in that game.
Marv Frederick phoned in for several classmates' addresses including Gus Braun and Speed Granger. And a note from Charlotte, Ev Lamson's widow, says she enjoys reading about Ev's classmates in the Frontiersman—thanks to Dale Barker's write-ups.
A note from Leo Burt says they had a nice visit with the George Dykes at their mountain-top retreat—"a most charming place"—and refers to getting stuck in the snow for lack of snow-tires. Which brings to mind George's dissertation on "Coeducation" and the subject of "Greater Female Participation" as an integral part of the college. This writer prefers to reserve judgment on this subject!
A note from Mrs. Stan Llewellyn, down in Camden, reiterates Stan's wish of some time ago to "stay in Camden always"—which seems to speak well for Camden. Lucy says: "Come on down and see for yourself!"
Dave Markham, out in Muskogee, Olka., says they got in a European trip this past summer and had a New England tour in prospect. Hope they made it! And the Elliot Sharps took a thirty-day tour of Scandinavian countries which prevented their attending last reunion in Hanover. Elliot says he must be in his second childhood as he has taken up tennis again after a lapse of forty years and really enjoying it.
Trace Brownell asks "What's this I hear about legs? Besides kinked intestines, a bad back and clogged leg arteries, my legs from the knees down feel like a couple of wooden ones. In addition, I now find that one good hooker of G. & B. is about all this old boy can take. So my bride of 48 years and I take it fairly easy. We still drive but keep off the thru-ways and avoid trucks and buses. Sounds like a heluva existence, doesn't it?"
Jack Johnson, out in Ashland, Ohio, still talks about the wonderful time they had at reunion. "We surely missed you and your shining face." And a cute card from the Art Sterlings quotes: "Let nothing you dismay, though smog and oil-soaked blobs of snow swirl down to block your way on this Merry Christmas Day!" And the StringDownings came up with a Christmas outing at Cohasset with their daughter and family of three boys—13 years, 11 years and 6 years—with a bit of elbow-bending —which helped!
So, as indicated in the first paragraph hereof, may the wintry winds be about ready to merge with the approach of spring and get us all off to a good start for the realities of the year ahead. OK?
