This one will be short for two reasons: (1) no material: (2) December issue is Alumni Fund Report time. We hope you get to see your name in print.
It is with great resret that we must report the passing of Jack Hamilton at his home in Great Falls, Mont., early in October. We understand that Jack's death was the result of cancer. A more complete account of his death will be found in In Memoriam. I know that the Class joins us in extending our deepest sympathy to his parents and three sisters who survive him. Jack was not married.
A nice note from Jerry Wensinger locates him in Ann Arbor again, teaching in the Department of Germanic Languages and working on his thesis for a Ph.D. Together with his work at the University of Innsbruck in Austria last year, he combined climbing, walking and much skiing in the Alps, spent a gbocl deal of time in Rome and Venice, and travelled in Greece, Crete and the lonian & Aegean Islands. Where to from here, Jerry?
With this issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE highlighting the 1954 Alumni Fund, it is fitting, we feel, to pay no small tribute to BobRussell and his Assistant Class Agents who devote so much time and effort to make our class a proper load-bearing unit of the alumni body. The work that they do is a labor of love; not, as you might suspect, a repressed desire to be a Dunn or Bradstreet. Even now Bob is laying plans for next year that we hope will put '48 on top. He needs all the help he can get. Those of you who want to do something to make the class stronger and maintain Dartmouth as a top member of the group of privately endowed colleges who bear the burden of educating the youth of our country WITHOUT state or federal subsidy, should write to him and offer a few hours of your time. I can guarantee that the satisfaction of achievement is more than worth the trouble.
We trust that some of you got out to the football games here and there - saw the Big Green doing its best. Let us know who you ran into and what kind of information was exchanged.
We won't see you again till 1955. Our heartiest best wishes for a very happy and satisfying holiday season. If you're in this neck of the woods, drop in for a nip. And a Happy New Yearl
