On Monday evening, October 29, a class dinner was held at the Dartmouth Club in N.Y.C. Johnny Sheldon, our class prexy, came from Chicago to attend the meeting and presided. The following men attended: Johnny Wolff, Mike Isaacs, Al Rice, Don Marcus, Bob Newfang, Joe Byram, Howie Sargeant, Paul Fox, Max Wolff, John Couzens, Jerry Altman, Gordon Mackenzie, Bob Harrison, Bo Wentworth, Jay Whitehair, Morrie Hubbard, Jim Corbett, Art Allen, Fred Gage, Ed Marks, Rod Hatcher, Art Mayes, Warren Moore, John Zimmerman, Bill Morton, Ping Ferry, Ray Bartlett, Brown Dickinson and your secretary.
Howdy Pierpont, our Memorial Fund Chairman, had planned to attend but was called out of town at the last minute. In his place, JohnnySheldon discussed the progress of the Memorial Fund and made a plea for each man to raise his sights in order to make 1932's memorial gift something of which we can all be proud.
Treasurer Johnny Wolff reported that the class treasury stood at $1520 and that 301 classmates had paid their dues last year. It is hoped that this year the number of dues paying classmates will reach at least 400.
Ray Bartlett, our reunion chairman, reported that plans were going forward to make the 25th the biggest and the best! The dates have been set for June 13-15 so start to make your plans now so that you and your family will be on hand. Handy Auten and Dick Olmstead are assisting Ray by handling all the arrangements in Hanover.
Ed Marks, who with Dick Hazen and Reuel Denney, has undertaken the compilation of our 25th Year Reunion Book, reported that in the near future two questionnaires would be sent to each member of the class. Ed urged that when you receive yours, you complete it in full detail and return it promptly so that the work of the committee can proceed smoothly.
Johnny Couzens has been appointed Newsletter Editor for this year to succeed George Hahn.
Art Allen claims that he is the first in the class to have a son who is a commissioned officer in the U. S. Navy. Maybe someone will dispute this - I am sure I wouldn't know.
Mac Mackenzie has forsaken suburban life in Summit, N. J., after many years and has moved to an apartment at 80 Park Ave., New York City. Mac is still with the Monroe Calculating Machine Co. and his two boys are in college.
Dan Sundean is reported to be operating a successful lumber business in Raymond, N. H., where he lives with his wife and family.
Lawrence Lerer is teaching Science at the Maynard (Mass.) High School.
Bob Ryan is keeping his fingers crossed in hopes of getting the lead in the jack Dempsey film biography. With his boxing background, Bob would be a natural and we certainly hope he makes it. Bob has just finished making "Men in War," soon to be released.
Wally Modarelli was recently certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. As Wally put it "that was the exam to end all exams." In June, Wally and his good wife Pauline journeyed to Chicago where Wally became a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians. While there Johnny Wright and wife Evie gave a party in their honor. Present with their wives were Carl McGowen, Marv Chandler, Ed Eichler, Dave Kirby, Al Christie, Joe Bennett, Howie Pierpont, Justin Stanley, Johnny Sheldon and Frank Wright '33. A big Wah Hoo Wah and congratulations to Wally as the. recipient of two such honors in one season!
"Men make gas pipelines. All types of men are involved. Some have general skills, others are specialists in one of the sciences or technologies. All are men of vision and success. Above all they are experienced." This has been written about the management and engineering teams of the American Louisiana Pipe Line Co. This is the team on which Deke Mack serves as vice-president, secretary and genera! attorney. Deke had served with the S.E.C. in Washington in various capacities, his last being that of principal U. S. attorney. After military service, he returned to S.E.C. as assistant director of corporate finance division and held that post from 1948 to 1952. At that time he became affiliated with American Natural Gas Co. He currently holds offices with Michigan Wisconsin Pipe Line Co. and is general attorney and director of the American Natural Gas Service Co. I was very pleased to get this clipping from Marv Chandler, as I have not written about Deke for at least two years.
May I take this opportunity to wish each and everyone of you and your families, the very merriest of Christmases. May the year 1957 bring you good health, happiness, prosperity and one hell of a good reunion weekend in June!
