It seems we have mentioned once or twice in the past months the expected increase in the clan Leslie, and now we are ready and proud to announce the arrival of young Marcia, on December 12. Mother and Dad arrived at the hospital at 1:05 a.m. on this dark and icy morn, and the eight-pound, twelve-ouncer was born at 1:13 a.m., so you can see your old dad didn't have much time to wear out the shoe leather pacing the halls. Mary and Marci and the rest of the tribe doing wonderfully, thank you.
Up in these parts we are all looking forward with eager anticipation to the meeting here January 19 of the Alumni Council, with President Dickey, Sid Hayward, Bob Blackman, and many officials arriving for the gala festivities. Congratulations to Pierce McKee for setting the editors of Time magazine straight on President Dickey's family. That '51er is really on his toes.
HEARD 'BOUT THESE PARTS As you know the stork dropped off a baby girl to John and Nella Boardman last June 13. Ours is a girl, and I bet you can't guess what Joan and Pete Stein had on December 9. Of course, it was an eight-pound, two-ounce charmer, now to be known as Sandra Stein. The Stein contingent residing in Boston reports the presence of George Southwick and Don Clark of our class, and Ted Davenport, Bill Stout, and Mike Harris of surrounding classes.
It seems as though the female classification being fathered by famous and unfamous '51s rank far in the majority. Off the production line on November 15 came Elizabeth Tyson Perkins, gorgeous and naturally beloved daughter of our own Read and Es Perkins.
Our hats are off to some unsung Harvard postgraduates of last June. Let's just quickly sing out the praise and degrees and hope that our learned friends will accept our good wishes. Barnes got his M.P.A., Flemer his M.Arch., Kahn, an M.D., O'Dowd, his A.M., Saxton, an M.B.A., Sirkin and Stewart, their M.Arch.
A nice letter in from Jim Balderston tells us of the arrival of a young Jim, James Jr., to be exact. The heir apparent arrived a couple of months ago, and according to Jim and wife, Dorrie, is ruling the roost. Jim has settled his family in Williamstown, Mass., for the present, and is going to Williams to study math, electricity and magnetism. When he's finished (waded his way through) all this, he'll be able to operate as a field engineer for the Sprague Electric Co. In case anyone happens to be in the vicinity of Hopper Road in Williamstown, drop in to see the Baldys.
Guess we might as well plow into a few wedding notices - first, we see that Miss Suzanne Brown and David Hall plan a January wedding. Suzanne attended McGill University, and since graduating from D.C., Dave served in the Pacific area with the USCG. A couple of wedding announcements received in the mail tell us that Mary Ruth Hazelden was married on December 28 to Paul Meyer. The wedding took place in Waterville, N. Y. And Yvonne Cunningham said "yes" to ChuckEccles on November 11, way out in Salt Lake City, Utah. The newlyweds can be located at 3332 South 3175 East, in Salt Lake. Your scribe just came across a nice note from NedHoeppner, written way last summer, on the rear of his wedding announcement. Ned and Maurine Guest were married last June 18 in Rochelle, Ill. We may have previously reported this, but Ned and his bride have been in Ravenna, Ohio, where he was stationed with the 53rd AAA Brigade, finishing up his last six months of the tour of duty. Ned spent the two years after graduation at Columbia, getting his M.B.A. at the Business School - then he went to work for RCA Victor until the Army caught up with him.
Last October 8 saw the nuptials of FrankJohnson and Sarah Gardner performed. The bride was graduated from the Univ. of Maryland, and the Washington School for Secretaries. After Dartmouth, Frank went through the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. As far as we know, the Johnsons are making their home in Alexandria. Married in November were Dr. Dick Horswell and Miss Cynthia Ann Hall. The happy couple departed for New Orleans and their honeymoon, but must now be residing at 2330 Lincoln Park West, Chicago. Mrs. Horswell attended Indiana University, and will be graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing sometime this month. Dick attended Northwestern Medical School and is now interning at the Passauant Memorial Hospital in Chicago. We'll sneak in an engagement here that of Miss Joyce Hutton to WalterSchreiner, both of Glens Falls, N. Y. Joyce is working as a secretary for General Electric, and Walter, after finishing up at Tuck, is on General Electric's business training course in accounting services. Walt also saw service as a 2nd lieut. in the U.S. Air Force. There will be wedding bells in the spring.
ON TO OTHER THINGS. .... We're very late in getting this word to you, but JohnLocke has accepted a position with the City of Philadelphia as assistant training officer, Division of Environmental Sanitation. John and his spouse Evelene have two future Dartmouth sons, John Jr., 6, and Tommy, 1. Just as tardily, we hear the word that Joe Manganelli, now living in Utica, N. Y., and associated with the law firm of Coupe, Coupe and Matt, has passed his all important bar exams. Joe went to the Albany Law School and was graduated from there last June. Two-year-old Claudia and wife Dolores make up the rest of the Manganelli tribe, and you'll find them all at 1009 Smith Place, Utica.
Named to Alpha Omega Alpha, national medical honor fraternity, for outstanding academic achievement is Bob Brod. This honorary degree comes from the State University of Medicine in Brooklyn, where Bob should now be in his fourth year.
A nice letter from Doug Gray really brings us up to date of his doings. He got out of the Navy last March, rushed to Cincinnati, where he is now with the Advertising Department of Procter & Gamble. Wife Nancy presented another candidate for the Class of 76 last October 26 in the husky shape of young Cameron Douglas. Father and Mother Gray report that all is well. By now, Chuck Fryer, almost year-old son Gregory Scott, and mother Fryer should have ended their house-huntmg in the "hinterlands" of Westchester. An appreciated letter in from Chuck last November gave us the facts of the Fryer family. Chuck is working for Young & Rubicam in Manhattan in their Research Department, after having given his time to the Air Force.
Ran into Bill McFadden the other day, fresh from the mountains and plains of Montana Great Falls, to be exact, with one wing in a sling. Seems that Bill is still on the ice sheet, playing for an amateur hockey team in his spare time out there. Apparently, he tangled with something more rigid than he, and his arm snapped. For a livelihood, Bill is a securities pedler for Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood, whose home offices are here in Minneapolis. Bill said Mike Choukas has had a son, which we believe rounds his tribe out to three neophytes.
Since all of you no doubt made many courageous New Year's resolutions, how about making one to drop u.s a card periodically? Wish we were about ready to head south to the land of sunshine and health, but it's Minneapolis this winter for all five of us.
