Into your hands has rolled the scads of Alumni Fund material so well and thoughtfully prepared. The appeals from Hanover and your classmates represent far more than the hundreds of other appeals for funds that come to all of us in the mails each year. It offers us an opportunity to share in whatever way possible the preservation and the growth of Dartmouth. I am so absolutely and 100% sold on this cause that I cannot help but often pray that you are, too. If you haven't already done so, send all that you can now to Hanover, Gary Mansur, or the Agent that has your scent.

Winter snows still rage up our way, even if it is well past Easter, and thinking of Easter, we hope that it was a pleasant one for all of you and your little egg hunters. It was nice to have Bob Meyer with us over Easter Sunday. As you know, Bob is a salesman in St. Regis Paper Company's multiwall division. Another St. Regis man is Justin McCarthy who was recently appointed assistant production manager in Montreal, after having completed two years of training in bag manufacturing in Pensacola, Fla. Anyone passing through Montreal can get in touch with Justin downtown at the Canada Cement Building. The McCarthys have a young son by the name of Charles Michael, whom it is reported will be contending for a seat with the Class of 1976. This brings up a good point - if you husbands are too busy to drop us a line, ask your wife to do it. In fact, the feminine touch is an ."dispensable one

We are very pleased to give a large Wah-Hoo-Wah for Frank Smallwood who was appointed administrative assistant to the general manager for research and industrial development of the Atomic Energy Commission in Washington, D.C. This is certainly a remarkable and praiseworthy accomplishment for a line guy. As long as we're throwing roses and orchids about, let's throw a couple at LoyeMiller who has been doing a fine job on the class Newsletter - '51 Facts. I am amazed and thankful that our material doesn't clash headon more than it does.

Word in from Juli and Nadia Olney tells us of the birth of David Masters Olney last August 4. No other information available on this climactic event other than Master David weighed in at 7 lb., 1 oz. He's probably well on his way to being a holy terror by now. We must first apologize to Dick Mason for our tardiness in acknowledging his nice letter received way last September. At that point, Dick was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., busily filling up the sandtraps on the local golf course. He said all his time was spent in doing something similar to the golf course duty — cutting weeds, painting, etc. Dick took his basic training at Ft. Jackson, S. C., and then went to Ft. Monmouth for an eight-weeks' radar school. Dick reports that since his Army career began he has seen such Vers as PeteBixby and wife and son, Bill Halpin at Columbus, Ohio, and Champ Smith in El Paso, Texas. Champ apparently got out of the Air Force in January, and has taken his wife and little daughter back East. Many thanks, Dick, for all this news!

Lloyd Gaston wrote us a nice letter from Birsfelden, Switzerland, where he is working for his Doctorate in Theology at the University of Basle. Lloyd has three more years to go, but is doing very nicely along all lines, as he is married, the father of two children, expecting a third. Lloyd actually graduated with the Class of '52, then spent two years in the Army. His wife is the former Suzanne Voute, a Swiss miss, who has presented Lloyd with Johannes, 4, and Thomas, who is 2. Also studying at Basle are two other members of the Class of '52 - making the local Dartmouth Club the proud possessor of three members.

We were happy to hear that the following were able to hit the Hanover Plain in March. No doubt, they were up to see a little of that white stuff, and from what we hear, that area had plenty of it this past year. The Hanoverbound men of '51 were Richard Terry, WaltSchreiner, Jim Culberson, Cliff Harrison and Reed Bagley. A toast to Dave Hall, who has, among other things, received his permanent commission as a Navy jg. Dave was on the USS Bennington earlier in the year, serving in the Far East. Joe Boissy received his Master's in economics sheepskin from George Washington University, Washington, D.C.I don't know where that Joe is or what he's doing, but at last report, he was living in Lowville, N.Y.

MARRIED OR NEARLY SO.... Mr. and Mrs. Don Waterous of New York recently announced the engagement of their daughter Marcia to Marine Capt. David McDonough. Wedding time will be in July. Charlie Blood and Shirley Yeaton are already known as Mr. and Mrs., since they were united in marriage on February 27 in Augusta, Maine. The couple took a "mooner" and have since, no doubt, returned to Belgrade Lakes, where Charlie is in the lumber business. Congratulations are in store for Theresa McLaughlin and BenSykes, who were married at the Chapel of Good Hope, Yokosuka, Japan, April 14. Theresa was a graduate nurse serving with the Naval Nurse Corps in Yokosuka, while Ben has been a Naval officer since graduating from Harvard Law School in 1954. Two couples were married in formal ceremonies in February. One of them was Dick Patton and Suzanne Poggenburg, and the other was Paul Meyer and Mary Hazelden. The Pattons were married in Devon, Pa., and we were happy to hear that Bill Dow and Al LeClair were on hand in monkey-suits to provide assistance and reassurance. Haven't heard what Dick is doing at present, but we did hear they were living in Dallas, Texas. Now Paul Meyer and his wife Mary were married in Waterville, N. Y. The young couple are living in N.Y.C., where Paul is working for his Ph.D. at Columbia.

That's about the extent of our hot scoops for May, except to say that if you haven't already fired off your Fund check to Hanover, PLEASE do so. Mugs Mansur and his group of musclemen have had one good year of experience in which to learn the arts of their trade, so no doubt last year's fine record will fall again. See you in June ...DAVE.
