Greetings gang! By now the shock of JimDanaher's twin boys must have subsided a wee bit, and your scribe can resume his babble with such astounding news. Chances are if one of you mamas tried to surprise us with triplets or the like, you wouldn't hit print this month anyway, because I have taken to the tall timber of Kenora, Ontario, with the Minnesota and Ontario Paper Co. Poor wife, Mary, had to stay in Minneapolis for the two-week stretch to keep the home fires burning.
Someone said Mr. and Mrs. Dick Austin were in Hanover for a day early this summer, and while we weren't there to prove it, we do know for sure that Ruth and Art Worden are the proud parents of six-pounder Ruth Ann, born September 9.
Now that we have no access to our records (those damn things completely fill our basement) we can't be blamed for any repetition which we feel sometimes occurs and for which we apologize. Harvey Goldstock was very happy early this spring, and may even be married by now, when his engagement was announced to Hermyne Strumminger. Harvey finished Harvard Business last June, and Hermyne received her A.B. from Skidmore. Say, flitting back to those babies for a moment, we proudly announce Mr. and Mrs. JohnBoardman's new arrival of a son, born on May 8 name unknown at this writing. John and Nell will be in Mpls. this year, where John will be attending the U. of Minn.'s Hospital Administration course.
RUNNING THE ENGAGEMENTS
Numerous lassies have finally consented to becoming Mrs. so and so, so much so that our portals are again clogged with the starry-eyed guys and their gals. Camp Breckenridge's own Lt. Harold Johnson and Maribel Tucker announced their big intentions this summer. Maribel hails from Roselle, N. J., and calls Stetson U. in Deland, Fla., her alma mater. Harold did some grad work at Columbia before Mr. Army took over. In June Constance Fellows and Stew Daniels did the same, and are right glad for it. Connie is an Englewood, N. J., bride-to-be, but I'm sorry to say, we don't know where Stew is at this second.
Len Smith said o.k. after a long struggle, probably a very happy one, to Delores Cham- bers of Mount Kisco, N. Y. Delores' schooling took place near Hanover, at Green Mountain, but her sheepskin was won at Skidmore. Len now lives in San Jose, Calif. Flash! Word has just been received that Dick Price has a husky six-monther (by now nine months) and from all reports, Bobbie can hoist 'em as fast as dad. For proof, see photo of Dick, Bobbie, and Shakey Shaw. Dick, who has been a louy for some time, is now Mr. Price.
It's now Mr. and Mrs. for Berl Bernhardt and the former Janice Hartman. The big day was August 29, but those are the only details we have. September 12 and Cambridge, Mass., saw the marriage of Carolyn Killian and PaulStaley. Kit, we heard, set up several dorms at M.I.T. for the out-of-town guests; her pa is president of M.I.T. Paul, as you may have heard, is lawing it at Yale. He relates that Frank Smallwood is slaving with the Atomic Energy Commission and signing million dollar checks daily of this we have no doubt!
We believe we reported Nels Brown's engagement, but just to be sure, we'll do it again. It happened way last May, and was to Margaret Wallace of North Brookfield, Mass. Nels soaked up some advanced study at the U. of Denver, and was later a personnel counselor at Sampson A.F.B. in N. Y. October is the wedding month for this happy couple, so maybe it's already happened. Air Force Lt. Dwight Allison is still courting the college girls and we bet he didn't tell her how old he really was. His engagement to Wheaton College's own Lyona Strohacker was sounded last spring. Lyona is now a senior. Al LeClair was chasing Joyce Milliken way back in '51, and now their forthcoming betrothal has been announced. Joyce and Al represent Vassar and Tuck respectively, and the East collectively.
Joan Low and Lt. Charlie Storer joined the group this summer with plans for an August wedding, so it's the Storers now. At last word, Charlie was at Quantico, and has seen duty in Korea. Althoughno date has been set, Jack Lotz and Janet Freeman recently announced their engagement. Jack was and may still be in Washington as Navy j.g. Janet will be the real bread winner with her job as training administration for the Allied Stores, Inc. of N. Y. Janet's school was Connecticut College for Women.
Now let's just breeze through a few lastminute engagements. Although some are quite ancient, we all give you hearty congratulations. Lt. Drew Matthews and June West were engaged in July, and by now should be married. Drew was stationed at Yorktown, Va., and June is a Mary Hitchcock grad nurse. Joan Flett got Earle Tyler's yes or vice-versa for marriage plans last spring. Earle's now an Air Force lieutenant, and was studying law at B. U. Joan graduated last summer from La Salle Junior College. No official notice is in yet, but when Margaret Madsen and Fred Merrill announced their engagement, a June 20 wedding was planned, so it must be Mr. and Mrs. Merrill now.
We blush with wasted words to have just sprouted Al LeClair's engagement and nonwrap up his wedding all in one article. August 22 was the big day and the gal was still Joyce Milliken. The '51er staff included Joe Lindner (been wondering where old Joe's been) who was best man, Billy Dow, Jim Balderston Chet Wiley '52, and Jim Melville '50, were ushers. Ensign Ron Thorburn and Mary Louise Apgar wTere married last spring. Mary swears going to Colby has no influence on the Dartmouth men, particularly those wise '51ers. Ron is on destroyer U.S.S. Bausell.
We still have a huge batch of full-fledged students in our midst, but for this month let's just cover the Harvard grads. It was great news to hear that on June 11 Dick Bergman,George Bissell, Harrington Cummings, EdGolden, Harvey Goldstock, Charlie Hood and Abdul Sheikh all received their Masters of Business Administration. Masters of Public Administration went to Bob Kreidler and Frank Smallwood; and Steve Cohen pulled down a Masters of Arts degree.
Merle Thorpe is blazing new trails in the mechanical field and our spies report he won top honors at the U. of New Hampshire for a paper he delivered before the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Another lad that isn't sitting down on the job is BobCoons who has received his masters of Fine Arts in modern languages at Princeton. Bob has taught French there, and plans to go on for that cherished doctorate.
Off on another junket, gang, and then into winter hibernation. If you know anything new or old, write it.
GETTING ACQUAINTED: Dick Price '51 (I) introduces his son Bobby to old-timer Gerry Shaw '51.
