Our first delightful task this month is to quote you an "epistle" from our good friend Ted Fajen in Manitowoc, Wis. Faj had this "gem" mimeographed and sent it to a number of you in the class - however, it was so good and so well described some of the highlights of our 10th Reunion that I thought it was worth publishing verbatim in the column. Here it is:
"Dear Gang, it was a very bright Sunday last June when we kissed Sam Johnson and Moose Marlet goodby on their way back to Buffalo and watched Gimp Scharrer's Pontiac get off for Dayton with Gus Gillaugh aboard. Reg Pierce was trying to unload the last of the wonderful beer at a very attractive price; Andy Murtha seemed stunned to realize that it was finally all over and Rosie O'Leary was doing a little dance on the front steps of New Hampshire Hall. Patty and I just couldn't bear to leave Hanover that day so we collected Jake Whitman, Jack Sayres, Rosie O'Leary anil their brides and headed up for Keene's. We sat looking out over the Vermont hills to the west and had those one or two more tall ones that we really didn't need and. of course, the subject was the 10TH REUNION. We voted unanimously that it was absolutely the greatest weekend we had ever spent. First and foremost, the group was terrific. The food and drink were excellent and the planning and execution were the very best. We all know how hard Reg, Hose Nose. Andy, and an awful lot of other people worked, but all of their efforts would have been to no avail if we hadn't had the group.
getting your reaction on the 10th and trying to make some plans for the 15th. 1962 seems an awful long way but it is never too early to start making plans for a Dartmouth reunion. With Frank Ettari as Co-Chairman and a lot of the old guard pitching in as always, I'm sure that we can duplicate the success of the 10TH REUNION in 1962. We would like to know just what you did like and would like to see repeated and what you think could be left out of the program for the 15th. We'd love it if you'd just jot your ideas on the back of your Christmas card and send it along our way and thus kill two birds with one stone.
"I'll never forget how beautiful Aud Brinley looked at the Class meeting that Saturday morning or Spence and Lois Smith - the All-American couple in their shorts. I wonder who stole our big dragon pennant and will we get it back? Ginzo Wilmot was like a man possessed, showing his bride every nook and cranny of the campus. Poor Dale Armstrong was a mere shadow of his former self and looking more distinguished than ever. Reg was always leading the chant ably backed up by Hose Nose in the alligator shirt — some damned fool had a duck call. Yessir - many wonderful memories of that 10TH REUNION in Hanover. Let's all plan for a bigger and better 15TH REUNION and let's PLEASE have your suggestions and comments. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL. .'46 up,-Ted. P.S. William Arthur Fajen arrived on November 14 —score stands boys two, girls one. This may not be final but it is sure in the fourth quarter."
Isn't that terrific? You can certainly see bythis that the old Faj is really thinking forward to our 15th Reunion and we know hewill do a tremendous job. He reminds methat I mentioned in a previous column thatthe 15th is in '61. I stand corrected — it actually is in 1962, in. an off year. Bob Heussler makes the news several times. First for his engagement to Margaret Ten Broeck Jackson of East Aurora, N. Y. Additionally, Bob has been doing a lot of speaking as Executive Director of the Vermont Council on World Affairs. He recently spoke in Bellows Falls and is operating out of Burlington, Vt. Bob's background for this kind of work is an excellent one; he studied at the School of International Affairs at Princeton, among other things did liaison work for the United States in Nationalist China in Hong Kong, worked with his old buddy, Lowell "Sonny" Thomas Jr. and Sonny's dad, the famous Lowell Thomas of radio and world travel fame. Bob accompanied them on many of their trips and was a personal representative of Lowell Sr. Incidentally, Sonny is spending a lot of time on the lecture plat-form around the country and has lately been talking on his recent 50,000-mile trip through-out the Middle East. Our own Mac McLane is an officer in the new Gondola Aerial Lift planned on Wildcat Mountain in the White Mountains. We understand that passengers will have a complete view of Mt. Washington and the entire Presidential Range as well as Tuckerman's Ravine on the upward trip. The lift will take passengers to the top of Wildcat in ten minutes. The project is being planned by a private organization with the authority of the U. S. Forestry Service and certainly should be a great tourist attraction for visitors to the White Mountains. ... Colin Gunn has opened his own law offices in Westport, Conn., at 20 Church Lane. Colin graduated from the University of Connecticut and practiced in New York with the firm of Gustave Simons.
