Dayton Visitors - While calmly watching the old TV one night last week, our phone jangled and I was delighted to find on the other end Russ Chase '45 and my old Beta buddy Jud Hannigan. They are both with International Paper and were in Dayton doing some work at our McCall Corp. (publishers of Newsweek, McCall's, etc.). Russ is in sales with headquarters in New York City and Jud is Assistant Plant Manager of the Hudson River Mill at Corinth, N. Y. Both seemed to be prospering and it was good to hear from them both.... Mack Grove "hit town" the other day and coincidentally we ran into one another at a local restaurant here. The next day Dick Scharrer and I had lunch with Mack and he brought us up-to-date on his activities. After freshman year, he left Hanover and went into the Service, spending a good amount of that time in the Navy in California. About the same time his folks moved to that "sunny state" and upon discharge Mack stayed out there and enrolled at San Diego State College, graduating in 1949 with a Business Administration degree. After spending a year in the life insurance business with the Lincoln National, he went with Convair Aviation in 1951 in procurement and is still with the Convair Division of General Dynamics Corp. He lives in La Mesa, Calif., and is married to the former Beverly Carter of San Diego and they have two girls, ages 8 and 5. Mack brought us up-to-date on a couple of his old buddies - Bob Bogart, his high school buddy from Toledo, is back in that city in sales work and is married to the former Sally Straw, sister of Pete Straw '49 - Gene Lucey is in the wholesale hardware business on Long Island and the firm he partially owns, does a lot of business with the Air Force. Mack was here in Dayton on business for his company at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and it was good to see him.
