After winning the Dartmouth, Norwich and Middle bury Carnivals, the Big Green ski teams continued to look impressive this past month by winning the Williams College Carnival, while the Dartmouth B team took second place at the St. Lawrence Carnival.
Despite the absence of Ralph Miller, who had to stay in Hanover, and Dave Harwood and Bill Smith, who were trying out for the F.I.S. Team at Aspen, the Dartmouth skiers did well at Williams. Captain Chick Igaya turned in the best performance, winning the slalom, downhill and jumping events. Bob Gebhardt, along with sophomores Dave Britton and Bernie Baehler, added other alpine points, while Dick Taylor captured second in the cross-country race. Other Nordic competitors for Dartmouth were Don Peterson and Bob Burton in the jumping and John Capper in cross country.

Igaya added another medal to his collection by capturing the Canadian Amateur Slalom Championship in a race at Mt. Tremblant. Pete Kirby, Dartmouth's 1956 ski captain and now a graduate student at McGill, finished sixth.
In the North American Cross-Country Championships at Laconia, N. H., Dick Taylor won the Class B race and finished fourth in the combined, while Bob Burton took fifth in the Class B competition and John Capper sixth.
Dartmouth skiers were also well represented at the International Downhill and Slalom Races held at Stowe, Vermont, on March 15-17. Igaya took 9th in the downhill and 11th in the giant slalom against topflight international competition. Tom Corcoran '54 finished sixth in the slalom, 10th in the giant slalom and 10th in the downhill, for one of the best performances by an American skier.
A seven-man Dartmouth squad was one of the Eastern representatives at the NCAA championship meet held the final weekend of March in Ogden, Utah. Captain Chick Igaya, Ralph Miller, Bob Gebhardt, Dick Taylor, Bill Smith, and Bob Burton were among the Dartmouth skiers going, with Dave Harwood unable to make the trip because of a previous trip this winter to the West to compete in the F.I.S. team tryouts at Aspen.
