Dartmouth's heavyweight crews, under Coach Thad Seymour, got away to a fine start by defeating both Amherst and Brown in dual competition, but had to settle for third place behind Princeton and Harvard at the Compton Cup races and for Bth place in the most recent E.I.R.A. Sprints at Princeton. In the only other dual meet, Dartmouth and Boston University rowed a dead heat on the Connecticut, a 100 to one happening.

The varsity lightweight crew also encountered stiff opposition this spring. After defeating Columbia on the Harlem River, they lost to Yale and then were outclassed by Harvard and M.I.T. in the Biglin Bowl competition on the Charles River.

At the E.I.R.A. Sprints, the Dartmouth heavyweight varsity crew finished eighth in a field of ten ahead of M.I.T. and Columbia. Cornell won the event. Cornell also won the jayvee race with Dartmouth eighth, while in the freshman competition, the Big Green crew finished nth.

In the final meet of the season, the freshman lightweight crew finished a strong second to Navy in the 150-pound championship regatta of the E.A.R.C. held at Annapolis. Dartmouth's lightweight varsity did not fare as well, finishing seventh in a field of nine, while the Jayvees finished eighth behind all but Columbia.

The major meet of the spring season, the E.A.R.C. Regatta will pit the Dartmouth varsity and jayvee teams against the top crews in the nation at Onondaga Lake, Syracuse, June 22, to wind up the season.

Dartmouth alumni in the upper New York area may purchase tickets for this major Eastern Rowing Regatta by writing to Regatta Committee, Syracuse University Athletic Association, Syracuse, N. Y.
