The big news, of course, from the Dartmouth Club of Georgia this month is that of the Glee Club concert in Atlanta on March 29. We were lucky enough to have the Glee Club with us from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning. On polling all the alumni in the Atlanta area, it is agreed that the events of the whole weekend were an overwhelming success. Warren Agry '45 was general chairman, and his job was made very easy because he was surrounded by the able assistance of Fred Eaton '40, Lou Fortuna '38, Vail Haak '49, Dick Everett '40, and John McCauley '45 as chairmen of the various committees. It isn't easy work for a relatively small alumni club to organize and carry out the details for a large project such as a Glee Club concert, but thanks to the great cooperation of all the alumni in the Atlanta area, who acted as sponsors for the concert itself at the Cherokee Town and County Club, we had a great evening of song, and a weekend that we can all remember as an enjoyable one. 650 people attended the concert, and the Glee Club was never better nor the response more resounding.
Saturday from noon 'til four Bill Marsh '31 was gracious enough to have all the Glee Club, hosts, Alumni, and wives at a picnic in the ideal pine grove behind his home in north Atlanta. The members of the Glee Club we are sure felt that this was the highlight of their weekend for it was a temperate clear day, and most of them lazed in the sun and appreciated the few hours of relaxation on their active and energetic trip. Beer, baskets of chicken and sandwiches; badminton, baseball and basking made it a fine day to get to know that fine group of "singing ambassadors." Their only defeat was at the hands of ol" men, Agry and Marsh, who whomped the handpicked champ badminton team of the Glee Club. We won't list the undergrads names because the score was so lopsided.
The Glee Club appeared at 5:00 P.M. on TV station WAGA - and were excellent. Saturday night the individual hosts supplied dinners, dates (for some) and a chance to catch up on one of their few off-nights while on tour. Sunday they were off at 8:00 A.M. for Charlotte, N. C.
Our monthly meetings at Herron's eatery on Luckie St., Atlanta, will continue and we are hoping for increased attendance. We welcome all Dartmouth visitors from out of town to join us - first Mondays at noon.
