Let's begin our column this month with two of our class who stayed in Hanover to graduate from Tuck School in '38, and who are now in the banking business. Last spring Ray Bauer was elected President of the Linden Trust Co., Linden, N. J. More recently, Carl Noyes deserted New York City to accept the post of Vice-President and Cashier of the Merchants National Bank in Manchester, N. H.
When I was in Cleveland a few weeks ago, I talked briefly to Warren Crumbine who two years ago put forth what proved to be an erroneous claim to be the first member of our class to have a son entered at Dartmouth. Now, still undaunted, Warren is tentatively entering a new claim, namely to be the first in the class with two sons at Dartmouth. His oldest son Peter is in the Class of 1960, while Dennis is in the Class of 1962. Can anyone challenge this one?
In contrast to this, we have Art Carter whose only son is barely five months old, and won't be a candidate for Dartmouth until the Class of 1980. Before that time comes, Art will have his five daughters to educate, with the eldest starting out as a freshman at Wheaton College this fall. Art, by the way, is senior cost analyst with American Steel & Wire Division, U.S. Steel Corp., in Cleveland.
On my way through New Orleans last month, I talked briefly to Seymour Ochsner. Trying to get information from him about "Whom have you seen?" was quite futile, since Sey is the only '37er living in Louisiana. As many of you know, Seymour is practicing medicine in New Orleans, and is affiliated with the famous Ochsner Clinic there. He is able to maintain his Dartmouth contacts by serving as President of the Dartmouth Club of New Orleans.
Which reminds me that the new list of Dartmouth Alumni Officers was published last month, and I was pleased to note how many men in our class are serving in various capacities. The list is headed by Carl Ray, a member of the Alumni Council from District II. Al Reinman is president of the Dartmouth Club of Youngstown, Ohio. And we have three men serving as club secretaries as follows: Bob Woodruff, St. Louis, Mo., Carl Erdman, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Paul Olson, Brattleboro, Vt.
A change-of-address notice advises that Les Bratton has been transferred from Syracuse to Greenwich, Conn., with Les now serving as Manager of Services for General Electric Co. in New York. I find we have three other men working for General Electric and virtually surrounding me in this area. Bob Turner, who lives in Darien, Conn., has the rather imposing title of Consultant, Federal Income Tax Accounting. Fred Bunce, District Sales Manager, Communications Products Department, has just bought a new home in Wilton, Conn. And Roy Abbott, who reports a second son born early this year, lives in Stamford. I thought that I travelled quite frequently, but Roy has me beat all hollow. He works for General Electric International, and as Manager of Administration for their overseas operations, he* gets to such way-stations as Istanbul, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Havana, etc., with sufficient frequency that his wife complains that their children hardly recognize him.
Lastly, I have a brief item from the Manchester, N. H., Union with word that DickMoore has accepted a teaching position in the science department at the Merrimac High School.
How about some letters as a sort of Yuletide present to the secretary? Merry Christmas to you all.
Charles Conant Brooks '36, who is president of the Conant Ball Furniture Co. in Gardner, Mass., with his wife Faith and daughters Rebecca, Judith and Candace.
