A recent addition to the Hanover sports scene are the new Golfside Bowling Alleys, opened by Mr. and Mrs. Joiner of Hanover, at the corner of Lyme and Reservoir Roads. The ten alleys have the latest automatic pin-setting machinery and already have been widely used by Dartmouth students, faculty and townspeople. Fraternity league bowling begins this month. A community recreational room, for Hanover teen-agers, and a restaurant are additional features.
Dartmouth's 1957 ski captain and former Japanese Olympic ski ace, Chid Igaya, further distinguished himself by finishing in third place in the World's F.I.S. Slalom Championships held this past month in Austria. Two Austrians-Reider and Sailer - finished one-two ahead of Igaya, who was leading at the halfway mark in the competition but slowed up on his final run to "play it safe."
Dick Durrance '39, one of Dartmouth's all-time skiing greats, was elected las' month to the American Ski Hall of Fame-Durrance was one of seven chosen by the National Ski Association of America for the honor. Andrea Mead Lawrence, wife of Dave Lawrence '51, was another chosen.
