Bob Strong Memorial
THE new Hanover shop of the League of New Hampshire Arts and Crafts, now being constructed on Lebanon Street opposite the site of the Hopkins Center, will be named the Robert C. Strong Memorial Craft Building in memory of the late Dean of Freshmen and Director of Admissions who died in 1946. Dean Strong was president of the League from 1941 until his death and was himself a skilled craftsman. A memorial plaque will be placed on a projecting east wall of the building.
In addition to the sales area in the new building, there will be a rear section for craft instruction. Enlarged space will permit the addition of pottery, including wheels and a kiln, to the educational program. There will also be a silver and metal smithing shop, looms for weaving, a stencilling and silk screen classroom, and a woodworking shop in the basement where the pottery work will be done.
The Hanover chapter of the League of New Hampshire Arts and Crafts, headed by Mrs. Robert A. Rolfe ('31), is currently conducting a building fund drive to help finance the cost of the building honoring Dean Strong. Much of the interior finishing work will be done by the League members themselves.
