Members of the association celebrated the 64th annual Dartmouth Night at Man Jen Low's old New England chop suey house in New Chinatown. A goodly group gathered before the oaken plank prior to dinner to swap old stories and orbit stuffed olives. Nothing ribald, of course, just earthy. Guest speaker was Professor Harold Bruce '23h, who is now teaching government at Pomona College after many years on the Dartmouth scene. Mr. Bruce brought us up to date on the campus picture, having re-visited Hanover during the summer. Leon Rothschild '24, gave a short report on the outcome of the Capital Gifts Campaign in Los Angeles. Goals established last year have been reached and the local backing of this great drive proves that geographical separation from Hanover does not in any way detract from active support of the College.
The final piece of business was our annual election of officers, which, in accordance with a pattern set down years ago, was accomplished in true democratic fashion. Everyone was elected unanimously as only one candidate was nominated for each office. Saves much trouble. Richard J. Hefler '36, was elected to his second term as President of the association. Leon Rothschild '24, Honorary President; Dick Milliken '50, and Dr. Phil Bassett '30, Vice Presidents; Bob Purvis '49, Secretary; Donald Des Combes '54, Treasurer; Robert Danziger '54, Asst. Treasurer and Tony Frank '53, Asst. Secretary. Member of the Alumni Council will again be Ken Lieber '36. John Lyman '28, will chairman the Scholarship Committee and Dick Milliken '50, will retain his chairmanship of the Enrollment Committee. Directors elected for a two-year term include: Wesley L. Nutten 3rd '51, Peter Koelsch '42, Peter Reich '53, Robert Newsom '53. Directors for one year are, William Emerson '34, S. Furber Haight '21, Charles L. Robinson '31 and Rudy Pacht '35. Kudos to two of our members: Mr. William E. Palmer '31, has been promoted to Senior Vice President of California Bank and Richard A. Nelson '38, to Vice President of Philadelphia Carpet Co. Wish both the best.
