Although the Dartmouth swimming team is rated somewhat weaker this winter (see "Coaches Corner"), it has done well since losing the opener to Colgate by edging past Army 45-41, drowning Amherst 64-22, and most recently defeating Syracuse 71-15.

Against West Point Dartmouth's Pete Anderson set a new Indian record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:18.4, to best Rip Coffin's 1955 mark. Captain Jack Daniels and sophomore Charlie Brown were both double winners in this meet, with Daniels copping the 220-yard freestyle and the 440-yard race, while Brown annexed the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events. John Prior was second for the Big Green in the 50-yard freestyle, while Don Baker took first in the 200-yard butterfly event.

In the Amherst meet the Indians won eight of ten first places handily with Pete Anderson, Scott Piper, Whitey Dunphy and Don Baker teaming up to win the opening event - the 400-yard medley relay. Daniels took the 220-yard freestyle and Dave Cook won the 440, while Charlie Brown captured the 50-yard free-style and Tom Travis took the 100. Pete Anderson won the backstroke and Dick Prior, Cleve Carney, Max Grumbacher and Charlie Brown added the 400-yard relay race to Dartmouth's totals.

Completely dominating all but one event, Dartmouth swamped Syracuse by a 71-15 count in the most recent meet. Big Green swimmers took first and second place in all events except in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Daniels was outstanding in the 440-yard freestyle, while Stu Summers and Glen Gemelli placed one-two in the dive. It was strictly no contest in this meet, but the picnic is over as Dartmouth swimmers next face Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Penn and Cornell in the next five weeks, and all are strong league foes.

Dartmouth's first line of Tom Wahman (23), Captain Rod Anderson (20) and John Wadman (6) storm in on the Army goalie in the Hanover game won by the Big Green, 5 to 3.
