WARM, sunny days, ideal for spring sports, have marked the past month (April 19-May 17) and for the first time in a decade no contests were cancelled because of weather. Almost as perfect as the weather are the records compiled by most Dartmouth teams during this period.
Since mid-April the varsity baseball squad has won eight and lost four, with a 5-2 record in the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League. Coupled, however, with the spring vacation record of six defeats and no wins, the baseball team has an overall 8-10 record. The lacrosse team, after losing two on (he spring trip, has come on strong to win eight and lose two for an overall mark of 8-3. The varsity tennis team has an overall record of 11-4 to date, while the track squad has split even in dual-meet competition, with two wins against two defeats. The Big Green golfers, rated poorly at the start of the season, have won three and lost three, but a poor vacation record of six losses and one tie brings their record to 3-10-1. Varsity totals, with just eleven days of competition remaining, show 32 wins against 29 defeats and one tie.
Three other spring sports, conducted on a club basis, have also shown good performances, with the Big Green Rugby Team still undefeated, the Dartmouth Rowing Club crews on the winning side in most races, and the Sailing Club finishing a fine season.
At the freshman level, the results are not quite so impressive. The '62 baseball club has won three and lost three to date, the lacrosse team has a 2-2 record, and the track team wound up another undefeated season with victories in four dual meets. The freshman golfers won three and lost two, while the tennis squad won two and lost , three. Freshman totals show fourteen wins against ten setbacks. Combined varsity-freshman totals are 46 victories and 39 losses, a good spring record.
