We bucked the bugaboo of a Friday evening stag meeting on Dartmouth Night, October 14, and held a successful meeting at the Cumberland Club in Portland, Me. Friday night has always turned out to be the worst possible night in the week from an attendance angle but with Ross McKenney in his usual rare form as the speaker, we had a good turn-out.
At the short business session, President Herbert Nolan '43 appointed a nominating committee to bring in a slate of officers for 1961. The committee was composed of Alvin Morrison '57 Chairman, Dr. HowardSawyer Jr. '45 and John White '41. Election of officers will be at the annual meeting in December or January.
President Nolan also advised that there will be a regular Dartmouth monthly luncheon on the first Monday of every month at the St. Regis Hotel, 196 Middle Street, Portland, Me. All Dartmouth men are invited to attend.
Enjoying Ross McKenney's inimitable brand of humor were Herbert Nolan '43, William Carr '34, Boyd Parker Sr. '32, Oscar Noyes '32, George Capelle '34, Hoyt Marsden '21, Derrill Trenholm '17, Dr. John Lappin '20, Dr. E. Allan .McLean '31, R. Michael Daley '60, E. Peter Starzyk '60 and his father Stan, Dwight Smith '47, John Chapman '37, George C. Sawyer '32, Thomas Maynard '29, Dr. Howard Sawyer Jr. '45, Arthur Spear '07, Ernest M. White '05, William Poole '46, Hadley Ward '41, Richard Murray "57, Charles H. White II '57, Howard D. Allen '51, Joseph Scully '52, Alvin Morrison '57 and yours truly.
George C. Sawyer '32 drove 300 miles down from Aroostook County just to hear Ross McKenney. That is quite a tribute to Ross who has devoted his life to teaching thousands of Dartmouth boys how to live in, survive in and enjoy the woods.
