Dartmouth's winter track squad, regarded by Coach Ellie Noyes as one of the strongest of recent years, got away to a fine start by romping to an 84.-20 win over Columbia. But in the most recent meet the Big Green was edged out by powerful Manhattan, 59-50.

The Indian's captured eleven first places in twelve events against the Columbia Lions. Dartmouth yielded first place only in the 45-yard high hurdles, but John Ebers and John Knight finished second and third in that event, while Bill Zeilman copped first place in the 50-yard dash. The Big Green swept the middle-distance and distance events plus the relays.

The Manhattan meet was a close and thrilling contest all the way, with Dartmouth finally yielding to the Jaspers, 59-50. Manhattan collected most of their points by sweeping the middle-distance events (600 and 1,000-yard races) plus the two-mile and the relay races. Nick Jennison turned in a fine performance to win the mile for Dartmouth with a clocking of 4:18.3, with Tom Laris third. Laris later took second place in the two-mile race. John Ebers and Jack Knight were first and third in the 45-yard high hurdles, while Chris Nissen and Dave Sloper were second and third in the 50-yard dash. Rod Isaacson was second in both the 35-pound weight toss and the shot put, and Dartmouth added other points in the field events with John Penn first in the weight throw, Rick Husband first in the broad jump, and John Holland first in the pole vault.
