Ex-Dean "Joe" McDonald informed, amused, and warmed the hearts of 117 alumni, wives, and dates at your Philadelphia Club's Annual Dinner on Friday evening, February 5. The Dean brought us up to date on happenings in Hanover and regaled us with stories and anecdotes drawn from his years as Dean.
The affair was held at the St. Martin's Clubhouse of the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill and concluded with dancing to the strains of the Michael Travis Orchestra. chestra The Class of 1928, with seven members present, reclaimed the Class Attendance Cup, and the champagne which goes with it, from the Class of 1951 which came in second this year with five members present.
At the 53rd annual business meeting preceding the dinner, the following officers were elected: President, Richard W. Lippman '42; Vice-President, James F. McElroy '31; Secretary, Russell C. Dilks '51; Treasurer, L. Hewitt Cook Jr. '55; Executive Committee Members-at-Large for one-year term, Samuel R.Roberts '51 and David E. Paxson '59; Members-at-Large for two-year term, Paul S. Miller '47 and Hiram J. Allman '55. As the immediate past president, Edwin H. Fowler II'53, is an ex officio member of the Executive Committee. President Lippman named Paxson as Social Chairman.
On Monday, January 25, 21 alumni and guests heard John A. Cost, Vice-President of the Data Processing Division of Fidelity-Philadelphia Trust Company, speak on "Bank Automation." The last-Monday-of-the-month luncheons are scheduled to continue through May. They have featured some excellent speakers; all we need is a large audience.
Plans are proceeding apace for the Dartmouth Glee Club Concert on Saturday evening, April 2, at the Philadelphia Country Club in Gladwyne. A full evening, concluding with dancing, is scheduled. Joseph L. Mansfield '44 is serving as General Chairman for the event; David J. Steinberg '55 is in charge of ticket sales; Club President Lippman, of patrons; Paul G. Finegan '55 and Timothy R. Hutchinson '55, of housing; and Executive Committee member-at-large Allman, of arrangements
By the time you read these words, you will have received your dues notice for 1960. We need your dues to continue to operate the full and interesting program of Club activities we have and also to put out a new Directory of Alumni in the Philadelphia area. We also need your participation to make our program succeed. We're counting on you!
