Although it was delayed in getting into print, Fred Schmidt's first Newsletter was a treat for these tired old eyes and, I'm sure was greatly appreciated by all. Writing these columns and the newsletter is no easy job as I'm sure you know, and if that first letter was any indication of Fred's ability, we should consider ourselves in for a pleasant time in the future. Congratulations, Fred, and keep 'em coming. And while I'm on the subject may I again reiterate that the green information slips that Fred sends out are about the only way, short of personal letters and Barney's dues bills that we can get the information vital to the class files. They don't take long to fill out and are greatly appreciated, particularly by your SEC.

Inasmuch as Fred's green pages go out to all the members of the class while mine go to a slightly smaller number via the MAGAZINE sent your way via class dues, I'm thinking of christening these efforts the "dues news," for eventually that may be exactly what it will be. With our cost of the MAGAZINE about to go up, as the class passes the fifteen-year mark, your Executive Committee will have to survey the situation once more. The result will probably, and unfortunately, be the elimination of more non-dues payers. More on that later, for the Executive Committee is due to meet this month in New York, and this column will carry a resume of the proceedings.

And now for the "dues news." Dick Johnson of the law firm of Johnson and Johnson in January was named Custodian of Tax Titles and Possessions for the City of Woburn. Dick has also served on the school committee and as an alderman. Incidentally, Dick's position as Custodian involves the custody of all deeds taken by the city for non-payment of taxes, directing the closing of the city's claim, and offering for sale by auction or sale the properties so seized.

With the results of the March presidential primary in New Hampshire now in hand, take a look and see how delegate Dave Hewitt (ex-Newsletter editor), editor and publisher of the "Hanover Gazette" did in his quest for a position. Dave was running as a delegate favorable to Nelson Rockefeller which, under New Hampshire law, he is entitled to do even without the candidate's assent. As Rocky withdrew his name for the N.H. primary, I'm curious to see how Dave fared.

Interesting tidbits gleaned from the files of the Alumni Records Office include the following: Dick Brown, Assistant Vice-President, First National Bank of Boston, with residence at 44 Fox Run Road, Hamilton, Mass.; Neale Lawson, an associate with the firm of LaRoque and Hewitt, Kinston, N.C.; Vic Smith, now in residency at 136 Julep Drive, Cincinnati, and waiting to serve any and all 45's with ... well, what else?; Johnny Pine, now living at 1228 West Cleveland, still in the town of Fayetteville, Ark.; Major John Callaghan, untwisting red tape in the Pentagon and located in Arlington, Va.

Also, Andy Dewing, Administrative Director, Advertising and Public Relations, Continental Casualty Company, Chicago; Murray Sams, Senior Partner of the law firm of Sams, Anderson, Alper, Meadows and Spencer, Miami; Crawford Elder, Regional Advertising Sales Manager, U.S. News and World Report, St. Louis; John B. Campbell, President, Mannington Mills, Inc., Salem, N.J.

And that brings us right around to time for this month. However, don't forget that if you are in heed of an address, address your inquiry to me, and I'll send you the information. At least I think I will. I don't think we've lost many of you. And stand-by, golfers, the weather will improve.

National Biscuit Company has named Bob Schaeberle to the post of Controller, succeeding another Dartmouth man, Charles S. Webster '33, who has become vice president for finance. Bob joined Nabisco's accounting department in 1946 and two years later moved over to the controller's branch. Later he became an auditor and after a number of special assignments he was named assistant controller in 1958. Bob and wife Barbara, and two sons, live in Glen Ridge, N.J.
