Out of Bear Den Gulch last week came news that Miss Suzanne Horney had been selected 1960's Winter Carnival Queen. A very attractive Stanford freshman, in case you hadn't seen the picture, and I imagine many '58s haven't. Well, you couldn't really tell if Line Mitchell had seen it either but if you're fortunate enough to know Mitch very well, you'll realize from whence cometh such remarkable journalism as appeared in the latest class newsletter. Indeed, Mitch's latest wonder brought back memories of the Senior Class Protest, the Daily Dean, the Palaeopitus petition, and the 1958 Daily "D" editorial policies all rolled into one. Of course, "The Sound and Fury" wouldn't have been half so good if it hadn't been written on Northern tissue. By some odd quirk of fate, just as I was finishing using the newsletter, who should call collect but Fleet Admiral Hyman Stoddart, who was posing as someone near to all our hearts - and bank accounts. At the time, Dick happened to to be entertaining his lovely fiancee, Nan Masek, Lee Ambrose '59, and Lee's absolutely fetching young wife - tooth-puller. Censors, please, this is no joke. She's a dentist!

Of course, this is strictly off the record and unconfirmed, but it was recently reported that Mitchell was unable to accept a collect call from a ship off Newport, due to circumstances beyond his immediate control. For shame. Nothing should interfere with calls from friends. Before I run off the end of this sheet, it just occurred to me that there are still a few official notices that need tending to. Several recent weddings:

The Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation announced in late March that Ed Turner has been named a sales representative for production steels in their New York district sales office. He joined the firm's sales training group last year and has completed the program. Ed is married to the former Rose Marie Materlie of White Plains, who is an alumna of Wigwam Circle. They now have two children and are residing at 33 Benedict Avenue in White Plains.

Lindley Hall to Margaret Coxhead of Llewellyn Park, N. J. Larry Hampton to True Jordan of Manhasset, N. Y. Dave Moss to the former Joanne Freyberg of Scarsdale, N. Y. Dave's an ensign in the Coast Guard Reserve. Charlie Henderson to Susanna Mary Waldbillig of Slingerlands, N. Y. The couple will live in Honolulu where Charlie works for the Hawaiian Dredging Co. Jim Willing to Sarane Symonds of Essex, Conn. Jim plans to enter the Boston investment business soon. John Blunt to Susan Fencl of Evanston, Ill. John's presently in training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.

We'll now add a few erstwhile engagement announcements to the scheme: Sander JayRobins and Barbara Sue Meyers of Philadelphia. Bob Dudley and Patricia Taylor plan a September wedding. Bob's a Coast Guard ensign. Andy Blau and Kelly Smith Hines of Pacific Grove, Calif. Pete Danford and Susan Jane Geiger of Canton, Ohio. Pete and Susan plan an August wedding. Alan Smith and Joan Wilkie of Lakeville, Mass. Al's currently with the Coast Guard stationed out of Ketchikan, Alaska.

Not wanting to drag this issue's column out too long, I think I'll quit right here. Before departing, however, let me remind you to think carefully before mixing up a batch of Mitch's "Good Greif Beer," described in the Spring issue of "The Sound and Fury." It sounds strangely like stuff Mitch used to mix up for friends who stayed too long at his house near Minneapolis.
