This month's column will of necessity be short. That old scourge of the student — the exam once again becomes imminent, and this is one time it will take more than wishful thinking to get me through.

Good supply of mail from '58s recently. Can't get over how helpful these are when I fight my way through the column each month. There were fairly apparent ulterior motives connected with a letter received from Derby Wilson some weeks ago. It appears that Derby's now an insurance solicitor for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Oklahoma City, Okla. Nevertheless, if anyone's in the market for life insurance, his sales talk was mighty persuasive and their program sounds like a good one. Hope this sends some business your way, Derb. Got word from Bill Hartley that he's now part of the patrol in the Formosan Straits and licking his chops over the prospect of being in the Orient a little longer. Speaking of licking their chops and the Orient, it appears that Nate Palmer resigned recently from a most illustrious and singularly sparse group of the male species. Nate, with the Air Force in Japan, saw the land of the Rising Sun from a most unusual angle. Joe Blake, epitome of rectitude, has most humbly asked to assume the presidency of this righteous clan, vacated so suddenly by Nate.

From Hanover, comes the news that Fred Hart, a research assistant at Thayer School, is engaged to Priscilla Goddard, daughter of Professor and Mrs. Richard Goddard '20 of Norwich, Vt. They plan a summer wedding. Fred reports that Ron Zwart's now watching radar screens on a Navy picket ship in the Pacific, and that Bill Smith and Dave Harwood are competing for berths on the Olympic ski team. Best of luck to you guys. Chet McGuire, who reported to Navy OCS at Newport back in January, recently married a former Carnival date, Julie Ann Ivory, of Chicago.

Time to rattle off a few long overdue engagement notices: Don McCree, an ensign stationed in New London, Conn., to Patricia Jones of New Canaan. Conn., a former Conn. College student. More and more, Skidmore appears to be becoming the popular locale for future Dartmouth wives. Latest evidence is the engagement of Sandra Mundy of St. Paul. Minn., to Norm Sylvester, helping out the Marine corps at Quantico. A Smith senior, Sandra Katte, is engaged to Dave Roak, who's working toward his master's degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Looking forward to an early summer wedding are Dick Mahoney and La Verne Hoyt of Dover, N. H. Dick's at Tuck School. Chuck Solms and Andrea Carol Buhler, a senior at Mt. Holyoke, plan a June wedding. Chuck's presently teaching English at Vermont Academy.

Bruce Gemberling, in the Army at Fort Dix, N. J., is engaged to Marilyn Mingle, of Millburn, N. J. Hank Milton and Diana Rae Harring, of Catskill, N. Y. Diana's a Green Mountain graduate and Hank's now affiliated with the Texas Co. George Martinson, at Tuck School, and Mary Rockett plan a September wetlding. Also engaged are Jim Willing and Sarane Symonds of Essex, Conn. Jim's doing graduate work at Boston University. A couple of Colby Jr. graduates coming up next. First is Sandra McBeth of Melrose, Mass., who's engaged to Mel Wellstead. Mel gets his master's degree from Thayer School in June. Next is the betrothal of Jean Sargent of Mount Kisco, N. Y., and Dave Morgan. That's a real old notice. Sorry I slipped up there. Tom Thron to Hester Ann Turner of Paterson, N. J. Al Mueller to Sue Archibold of Albany, N. Y. Al's with the Army at Fort Dix, N. J.

On December 27 Edward D. Harris Jr. '58 married Mary Ann Hayward in Hanover. Pictured at the reception are: (standing left to right) Butch Colla, Fred Hart, John Coulter, Dick Shanaman, Dick Pew, Clay Freeman, Mary Ann and Ted Harris, Larry Bill, Mori Mitsui, Bill Smith, Dave Harwood, Ben Cooper, and John Graf. Kneeling left to right are: Bob Abbott, Dan Pierson, Dick Frisch, Ward Burian, Chuck Solms. All shown are '5B.
