Boy, the column will be brief this month. My usual news sources either completely failed me or got fouled up by the weather we've been having recently. At any rate, I've got to say something each month. It would be unprecedented to miss a deadline for the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, and run the risk of chastisement. Luckily, I have received a few letters and cards of late. Let's see what these people are up to.
First, a sincerely regretted omission from an earlier column: Word received from Mikeand Betsy Growney from their home in Cambridge, Mass., where Mike's in his first year at Harvard Law School. With the birth of Jeffrey Thomas in September, the couple now have three sons, the others being Edward Michael III (Chip) and Kenneth Eric.
From the "Caribe-Hilton Hotel" in San Juan, Puerto Rico came a flashy postcard from glorious Naval leader, Puffy Stoddart. It appears that on the island or during his current cruise, Puffy's run across a mess of '58s, among them John Otis, Larry Weltin,John Parker, Bob Gilges, Andy Petersen,Fred Bagnall, Hew Baldwin and Pete Herman.
Likewise, a very nice letter from DanAndretta who's working on his Ph.D. in Geology at the University of Wyoming. Prior to that, Dan got his M.S. from Montana State College in Bozeman; in addition he puts in a great plug for the scenery up there, the friendly people, hunting, fishing and the like. Dan admits, however, that his most important bit of news is concerned with his engagement to Yonna Marie Moss of Miles City, Mont.
In addition, we have news of other academicians: Carl Wentworth after his Ph.D. at Stanford as is Mai Hibbard from Washington. After receiving his M.S. in Geology from Vanderbilt, Lars Persson is back living in Hanover. Thanks for the news, Dan.
As of this writing, plans are in the making for a siege on Denver when the Glee Club arrives on March 20. Jim Preston, Joe Blake and I are among '58s who plan to lead the troops into action with a great demonstration of bar tactics and strategy.
