The June meeting of the Dartmouth Alumni Council not only marked the 100th gathering of the "senate" of the Dartmouth alumni body but it also provided an occasion for honoring Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College, who has been secretary and driving wheel of the Council for thirty years.

Members and former members of the Council, assembled in Thayer Hall for dinner on June 15, surprised him by presenting him with a gold wrist watch, inscribed with the sentiments of the group. Vice President Donald F. Sawyer '21, who headed the gift committee, did the honors.

To Sid Hayward and his wife Barbara, who leave this month for a trip to Europe, the Council, in lighter mood, presented a bag of foreign currency. The notes and letters written by Council members when they sent their contributions to Mr. Sawyer were bound into a book for Mr. Hayward, and further to mark the occasion, all the present and past members of the Council at the dinner signed a printed and framed statement of appreciation to the secretary of the Council for his long years of loyal and devoted service.
