Activities in Hartford for the 1960-61 season got under way early in September with our usual Freshman Luncheon, which was attended by thirteen about-to-matriculate young men and their fathers. Speaker from the College for this occasion was Stewart Sanders '56. Dave Schorer '63 was our undergraduate speaker.
Our fall cocktail party was held September 18 at the lovely Avon home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Manternack '37. Nearly eighty alumni, wives, and friends turned out to enjoy the refreshments, the vocalizing and the chit-chat.
Biggest event so far this season was the Annual Yale-Dartmouth Pre-Game Dinner and Smoker ... of particular significance this year, since it marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of our first win over Yale. Place this year was the Avon Country Club (noted for the excellence of its buffet). Speakers were Seaver Peters '54, Dartmouth's Assistant Comptroller, and (appropriately enough) JackKenny '36, captain of the jinx-busting 1935 team.
Last event of note was our November Luncheon Meeting. Speaker for the occasion was Fred Davis '23. An officer of The Travelers Insurance Company, Fred is also a key man in the Hartford Redevelopment Program and was able to give our members a new insight into this vital building program that will play so important a part in our city's future.
Football was the topic of conversation at the Annual Yale-Dartmouth Pre-Game Dinner andSmoker, sponsored by the Dartmouth Club of Hartford. Talking things over are (l to r)George Stangle '34, quarterback on the '33 football team; Jack Kenny '36, captain of the '35 football team; Webb Gault 'go, president of the Hartford Club; and Carl Nyquist, whoseson was a member of this year's varsity football team.
