The Dartmouth Alumni Association of Southeastern Mass. had a very successful gathering at the Cotillion Room in Taunton on October 30. Everyone enjoyed the social hour preceding the meeting and 45 men sat down to dinner at 7 P.M. Thirty of the forty-five present were from classes who graduated before 1930. Among this group we were especially glad to see: TheodoreN. Wood '01 of Middleboro; M. RichardBrown '03 of Fall River; Edward K. Robinson '04 of So. Dartmouth, and Frederick S.Weston '05 of Middleboro.
After the meal and a short business session our President, Robert E. Leary '49, congratulated our Vice President, KennethE. Sampson '31 on getting out twelve Brockton men and going ahead of Middleboro, with ten men present, for the first time. He also mentioned there were five men from the class of 1923: F. Stuart Knight and C.Burton Prouty from Brockton, Joseph E.Baldwin and C. Gardner Akin Jr. from the New Bedford area, and Judge Luke F. Callan from Middleboro.
President Leary then asked "Ken" Sampson to introduce our own John R. Wheatley '24, well-known and highly respected District Attorney for Plymouth County for the past seven years. "Pete," as he is usually called by his classmates and friends, told us of the many problems of a district attorney in a very interesting way. He sprinkled his talk with experiences and stories and everyone enjoyed his remarks. He had an important message too. He told us that the educated people of good character were not doing their share in government and that we had better wake up if we wanted to keep our present institutions and way of life.
