The annual meeting of the Dartmouth Club of Southeastern Massachusetts was held April 14 at the Cotillion Room in Taunton with 31 Indians present who braved the worst rainstorm of the year. The meeting opened with a moment's silence in memory of Alton G. Pratt '03 of 7 Pearl Street, Middleboro, Mass.
On a happier note, D. T. Burnett '19 was honored as the only member of this Club with perfect attendance. All members stood up, introduced themselves, and then heard Gordon Wentworth '40 of the Boston Club speak briefly on his Club's activities - including the Pops Scholarship Concert.
Then followed the report of the nominating committee: President, Gil Stokes '41, Vice-President, Nate Ryder '24, Vice-President, Morris Makepeace '28, Secretary-Treasurer, C. Gardner Akin Jr. '23, Director, Stan Davis '30, Director, Gary Earle '50, Director, out-going President, Ken Sampson '31. All were duly elected without incident.
Prexy Stokes then introduced the speaker Ort Hicks '21, vice president of the College. Ort compared his early days in Hanover with the amazing month-to-month progress currently in motion. The over-all idea of his talk was to present the three-fold purpose of the College as defined by the Trustees' Planning Committee: 1. To fulfill human and public responsibilities toward the future of America; 2. To remain small and hold the undergraduate body at three thousand; and, 3. To further develop the three course-three semester system. Mr. Hicks then went on to explain how the College is fulfilling these objectives.
