In February, it was poetry and renewed acquaintances for the Tokyo Club. The poetry was Robert Frost's, the renewed acquaintances were some old friends who returned to the Club fold after a period of absence.

On Friday evening, February 3, the Tokyo Club had one of its more successful dinner-meetings in recent years. The forty-five present were treated to a Robert Frost menu at the Okuma Kaikan, the faculty house at Waseda University, Tokyo: a wonderful talk by Prof. Toni Martin '33 — an analysis of several Frost poems - and a new USIS color movie obtained by Don Bartlett '24 which was entitled "Robert Frost." Toni's words led us on a fresh, new journey through some familiar and some not-so-familiar poetry while the film took us on a nostalgic walk with R. F. through the "far away" New England countryside that we all love - a mingling of discovery and reminiscence. Mr. Robert Frost '96, the Tokyo Club salutes you!

We were glad to welcome Chick Igaya '57 who has recently returned from the U.S. and is continuing in insurance in Tokyo; Randy Patterson '57 was in Japan long enough to attend the meeting before his submarine continued southward on its western Pacific voyage; Maj. and Mrs. John Topping and David, parents and brother of John Topping '64, were welcomed as new Tokyo Club members; Keiko Omoto, an old friend of the Club, came with the Ushiodas. Don and Henrietta Bartlett '24, Eifu Yamada '53a and "Charlie" Cheung '53 and their "okusansWalt Lamb '55, Larry Farrar '58, the Haleys '44, the Van Pettens '43, the Carpenters '55, the Shermans '38, Sarah Gilson (Ben was on a ski trip), the Tillotsons '50, Yoji Hirota '28a, the Caldwells '23, the Hitchcocks '50, Mrs. Kuroda, Nobu Mitsui '43, and the Stevensons '57, all enjoyed the never-ending flow of Hartley's omnipresent, enigmatic cucumber punch - Tokyo's answer to Hanover's beer.
