About now you should be ready to exchange that paint brush for a putter unless you've forgotten that it's a decade since you competed on the softball squad and you're still trying to emulate Mickey Mantle. Whatever the activity, however, you may be ready to check up on old cronies so let's see what's up in ...

CUPID'S CORNER

Gadzooks! Not one but two news items for this department this month. Dating back to the last day of 1960 is the information concerning the marriage of King Jarvis and Maureen Connolly in Catonsville, Md. The bride is a graduate of Marywood College, former women's page editor of The Scranton (Penna.) Times and currently food editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer. King graduated from Harvard Law School (what no post in the Cabinet?) and is practicing with Leonard F. Markel, Norristown, Penna.

On January 8 the announcement was made of the engagement of Henry Jaeger and Miss Gayle Abouchar of New York and Barcelona, Spain. A Barnard alumna, Gayle is a book designer with Charles Scribner's Sons. Hank is assistant production manager for Simon and Schuster, Inc.

Congratulations to you folks!

Another classmate who is making news this month is Paul Van Orden. The General Electric Company has announced Paul's appointment as manager of marketing research for the Receiving Tube Division. His new duties will include research in the areas of advertising, customer purchase motivation, and marketing methods. He will also be responsible for the size and geographical location of the markets covered by the department's sales organization.

Since 1957 Paul has been with the Receiving Tube Department as marketing analyst, specializing in marketing studies, market development and sales planning. Together with wife Barbara and two daughters, he is now living at 1623 Sioux Place, Owensboro, Kentucky.

INKADENTAL INTELLIGENTZ

Probably the most intriguing info, to be noted here concerns the fall fling scheduled for October 13 and 14. Class Chairman Frank Harrington reports that Newc Eldredge and Phil Gross are arranging for a picnic before the Brown game on that Saturday as well as a cocktail party afterwards. Not only will you have a chance to observe the Big Green team in action and compare expanding girths and receding hairlines on old roomies, but fall foliage should be at its height. With the usual inspiring Dartmouth Night ceremonies to join in Friday eve, this should be an outstanding event for all who can attend. Only problem is lack of a single establishment available for overnight accommodations, but there are many good motels within easy driving distance if you get reservations now! Why not set your plans right away? If you have any questions, you can write Newc at Box 539, Newport, N. H., or Frank at the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company .in Worcester, Mass. See you there??

The fair physiognomy fearlessly facing you is Paul Canada, recently elected Vice President-Sales at Equilease Corporation. The international leasing outfit is a subsidiary of Electric Autolite and most fascinating firm. If you need aircraft or barges, machinery or office equipment, Paul can fix you up. One of the major airlines, for example, has seven Convairs running on this basis ... except that engines are financed directly with turbine maker. You can see the sort of things that are involved! Paul was with 1.8.M. before getting into the leasing leagues three years ago. He was sales manager for Equilease for a year and a half. Cute caper, Canada. Kudos to you!

During a recent trip starting from Chicago's O'Hare Field we saw Don O. Brown for the second time in as many months and had time over a cup of java to learn that he was headed for Philadelphia. First go-round it was Houston. Don has his own food firm, Murray Brokerage Co., in Wilmette.... Later that day Male Riley was button-holed briefly at the Detroit airport where he was catching an Ohio-bound flight. As associate editor for "Materials in Design Engineering" magazine, Mai obviously has a large territory, too!

Sher Marchant has been appointed sales coordinator at Burt and Deli, Inc. The Hartford office equipment company has Ray slated to work on sales and design activities. Formerly secretary and sales manager for Connecticut Beef Co., Sher is a wheeler-and-dealer with the Hartford Jaycees, too.

Across town, Dave Beeman is veep for Sanitary Paper Mills, Inc., in charge of advertising and sales for New England's Dovalette Tissues in East Hartford. Dave's picture showed him concentrating with Hugh Downs, announcer of the Jack Paar TV opus for those of you in a fringe area. Prior to joining Sanitary Paper in 1957, Dave was a sales rep for Perkins-Goodwin Co., paper brokers.

Ron Bohle is "office manager, purchasing agent, and jack-of-all-trades" for Norman K. Bennett and Co. in West Palm Beach, Fla., plumbing, heating and swimming pools. He and Elaine have two girls, Carol Ann and Donna Marion, who are approaching the six-and five-year marks, and Mark Lee who needs another half year to count two. Ron is also secretary for the Associated Plumbing and Heating Contractors of Palm Beach County, prexy of the Northside Republican Club, precinct committeeman and member of the county executive committee. They even elected some people last fall!

Roaming from Rome, Dave Pendleton drove to Winter Park, Colo., in March to schuss boom with Brad and Ann Richardson. Stretch threatened a sojourn on the shores of Lake Michigan but kept moving when he found no one had baked a cake nor iced a keg. In fact, the paucity, of pastry was of minor consequence. Our piano was out of tune.

About the same time, that is at Saint Paddy's, the gallant glees from Hanover entertained in Chicago and environs. Herb Ray, back from his Trinidad trek, helped find lodgings. Jay Buck, outgoing prez of the local club, needed a little coaching from the audience during his introduction of the club's student leader. Si Morand, ex-treasurer for the Chi D's, took tix and tried to hustle securities for Merrill Lynch. Well, not really, but it makes a better story that way. Jim Stevens, who will safeguard the ex checquer next year, and Hugh Brower, club director and recently secretary, and Stu Sayre, Brunswick Corp. bigwig, all treated their wives to the evening away from Winnetka. 'Twas a good show!

One neat way to get ahead follows a simple formula: have your firm bought out, then take over the remaining outfit. Examples? Why, sure. Tom Warner's outf Wash Corp. was bought by another Minneapolis concern, Eagle Wash Corp. of St. Louis Park. Thereupon Tom was elected president and named a director.

The Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities has appointed Phil Dunbar its director. From 1955 Phil was Curatorial Assistant of Colonial Williamsburg. He copped a Master's from Yale's history of art department that year.

From the world of finance, money, and all that jazz, comes word that Rog Hillas has been made vice president of the Provident Tradesmens Bank and Trust Co. in Philadelphia. Rog is also a councilman of Hatboro Borough nearby.... John Swenson has a most interesting new job as Chicago representative for Paine, Webber, Jackson and Curtis' underwriting and new business. His main function is to lay the groundwork when a company wants "to go public," but he's also tooting the horn of the Alumni Fund looking for solid support for the College's continuing, important job....Jim Hutton represents the fourth generation of his family to be a partner in the now 75-year-old W. E. Hutton and Co., Underwriting and Stock Exchange firm. Jim's based at the Cincinnati offices.

That's about it for this month, chaps. We've got one more session before vacations are upon us. You have two months to go on the Alumni Fund ... but why not make an increased donation right now and have that off your mind? One other admonition: Get your Dartmouth Night accommodations now so you can enjoy the weekend reunion in Hanover. As the local d. j. says, "It should be a gas!"
