On May 27, 1962, This Week Magazine, a nationally-known Sunday pictorial section, published an article on the busy business tycoon and his increasingly popular habit of taking an after-lunch "cat-nap." One of the subjects interviewed for said article was none other than our busy Class Agent, Eliot Mover. Ellie sent the article along to me with the suggestion that it might be a good practice for an over-burdened, under-staffed, tired old class secretary. But I also received another copy of the article. This was from the West Coast and "Moose" Rowan who queried "Do we have a wide-awake class agent?" Moose, we do. Ellie, thanks for the article, but by following its prescription I almost missed this issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.

Several issues ago I wondered as to the results of the local School Board election in the East Meadow, L. I. school district where Rod Sweeney was one of the candidates. Rod kindly brought me up-to-date on what was a sweeping victory for the Committee for Better Schools whose three-man slate was elected to office. Congratulations.

Each year, as a service to those of you who do a lot of traveling and find yourselves in strange cities with time to kill, I publish a list of '45s who are active in Dartmouth Club affairs in hopes that you will contact them in your travels. So, here goes: in Waterbury, Conn., president of the Naugatuck Valley Club is Bob Nelb; contact Homer Yates in Riverside, Conn., for news of the activities of the Western Connecticut Dartmouth Club of which Homer is secretary; if you are going South for the winter, in Fort Lauderdale, Bob Ross still holds forth as the secretary of the Dartmouth Club of the Gold Coast, while in Jacksonville it's Paul Samek, secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Jacksonville; John E. Leggatt is president of the Dartmouth Club of Lowell, Mass., and still can't "chip" worth a . . . . John and I were partners in the Vesper Country Club member-guest this summer and did quite well for a couple of old duffers. In the Mid-west, Dave Mott serves as president of the Dartmouth Club of Detroit, a real live-wire group and in St. Louis president of the Dartmouth Club is BruceSymonds; the Dartmouth Club of Bergen County, N. J., lists Don Sisson as secretary; way out in Utah it's Gerry Hoyt, president of the Dartmouth Club of Utah; and if you happen to be in Toronto, look up Larry Bellows who is the president of the Dartmouth Club of Ontario. Other classmates serving the College include JoeYoung, National Enrollment Committeeman for Maryland District #29. The Class of '45 is obviously a busy one.

BOXING THE COMPASS: MurraySmart has been named Executive Secretary of the Independent Insurance Agents of Maine. He will be responsible for conducting the public relations, legislative, and general business of this 62-year-old organization. The Fafnir Bearing Co. of New Britain, Conn., announces the appointment of Odvard Bergethon as manager of instrument bearing sales. Bergie, a Thayer graduate, has done graduate study in industrial management at the University of lowa and has wide experience in the precision ball bearing industry. Dick Seybold has been named claim manager for the New York office of Continental Casualty Co., moving to New York from Cleveland where he held a similar position. Howie Brundage now serves as vice president, finance, and as treasurer of J. Walter Thompson Co. The Glens Falls Insurance Co. announces the appointment of Henry Moore as secretary in charge of research and development. He also serves as manager of the systems and procedures department. Bert Glovsky has been appointed co-chairman of the Lodge for Senator Committee in Beverly, Mass. Bert is a partner in a Beverly law firm with his father and brother. Al Frey '20 of the University of Pittsburgh Business School informs me that Ed Harte has been made publisher of the Corpus Christi CallerTimes. Charlie Phoenix is Assistant Professor and Research Associate at the University of Kansas, Department of Anatomy. Ashley Van Duzer has moved east from the Cleveland area to work for Dennison Manufacturing Co. in Boston. Henry Heintzelman is located with the American Consulate General in Singapore. "Lefty" Grunditz has forsaken Massachusetts for a position as Sales Engineer with the G. S. Blakeslee Co. in New Jersey. Lefty lives in Medford Lakes. And Jim Edson serves the Prairie Christian Training Center in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan. Sounds interesting, Jim. How about some detail on your activities?

Although I was unable to attend the fall meeting of the Class Executive Committee, I shall report on it as soon as I am brought up-to-date. Until then, keep your eyes open for Treasurer Oldfield's request for class dues. And remember, these dues are vital to the class, for they not only bring you news from Hanover via the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, but they allow the class officers to maintain a smoothly functioning class organization which gives 1945 representation and prestige among the Dartmouth alumni.
