Well, the "wild winter winds" are just about o'er, and the wonderful smells and noises of spring fill the air. There's nothing like the rich aroma of a freshly fertilized field, or the splish, splash, splush of a slushy road. Anyway, summer's just around the corner, so chin up, men. Get out the old five iron and practice a few waggles.
A friendly note from Vic Smith in Hilliards, Ohio, informs that Vic is at the moment finishing up a big supply depot for Westinghouse. And if Turner Construction doesn't come up with a Columbus or vicinity job in the near future, the Smiths may be on the move again. A note from PrestonAishton, better known as "Dutch," is full of news of people in the Chicago area. "A few lines come as a voice from the wilderness. See a great deal of John Brandt, DickFuller, John Allen, and roommate Bud Miller, who was just made Vice President of the First National Bank of Chicago. Catch glimpses of Don Campbell and Gordy Hinners.... Had a phone call from Jim Eckels."
Jim Knowles has thrown his hat into the political ring and is seeking the Republican nomination for Congress from the Third Congressional District of West Virginia. Jim has practiced law in Clarksburg as a member of the firm of Highland, Knowles and Morgan since he graduated from West Virginia University law school in 1949, and is chairman of the Harrison County Republican Executive Committee. He began his GOP activities in law school as president of the Young Republican Club. In 1958 he was a Republican nominee in Harrison County for the House of Delegates. Jim, at this writing, is unopposed in the primary coming up. His opponent, if Jim is nominated, will be the Democratic incumbent, 74-year-old C.M. Bailey, who has been in Congress since 1948.
Senior Research Geophysicist of Standard of New Jersey and operating out of Jersey Production Research Co., Tulsa, is Edward Davin, who for some time now has been living and working in Caracas, Venezuela. Good to have you back, Ed. Ole Passburg, East Longmeadow, Mass., writes that with the addition of his second son last August 22, bringing the Passburg family to a grand total of five, two girls and three boys, he has decided that rather than go for a full hockey team, he'll have to play goalie. Incidentally son number three's name is Robert Daniel. From Robert D. Allen of Hamburg, N. Y., comes news of the birth of a second son, Gary Eaton, on September 9, '59. Bob reports that he spends part of each summer at his cottage on Lake Morey, but aside from that his trips East are infrequent and business.
Jack Burroughs reports, or rather wife Alice does, that Jack is now working for the Standard Register Company out of their Worcester office. Dr. Ted Safford has moved his home and office next door to 18 Main Street, Ridgefield, Conn., and a nice big New England colonial. Bill McNeely is rightfully proud and wishes all to know that the Mc-Neely's have a son, William S. III, Angus for short, named after his great grandfather of Macon, Mo. Moose Rowan, after a year or so in Kansas City, has moved back to Chatham, N.J., where Moose will make the big commute to "the city" and his job with Western Electric Company. From Fred Ferbert: "Changed jobs.... Now Sales Manager for Rud Machine Company (Rocky River, Ohio). We repair ore boats, do a minor in industrial fabricating and machinery. Need any?" Jack Childs '09 of Aurora, Ohio, reports in on some news from the Cleveland area, on Cliff Cosgrove. Cliff is now in Cleveland selling advertising for Good Housekeeping Magazine and had dropped in on the Cleveland Dartmouth lunch in hopes of seeing a '45 or two. No such luck, and Jack rightfully berates us for not having better representation. Says Andy Carstenson is about the only '45 he knows. Not very good public relations, Clevelanders!

There is momentous news this month from the mildewed and cobwebbed recesses of the bachelor's club. The engagement has been announced of Miss Judith McAvity, Larchmont, N. Y., and one John A. Mac-Donald Jr. A February wedding was planned and so.... Congratulations, Mac Donalds.
Sam Spalding has been elected vice president of Hodgson Houses of Natick, Mass. Russ Chase has been named manager of publication sales of International Paper Company with headquarters in New York. TedBush was recently appointed assistant regional manager of Aetna Life's mortgage loan department. Ted lives in West Hartford, Conn. Carl Tourtellot has been named by Scott Paper Company to the post of Industrial Project Coordinator in the Industrial Planning department. Our congratulations to all of you gentlemen and the best of luck.
That's all for this month. I'll be back at the old typewriter in a month with the latest from the '45 archives. Hope you can stand the suspense.
