Next to playing before TV cameras, the Indians seem to be at their best under adverse, weather conditions. This year's encounter with Yale at New Haven could not have been played under much worse conditions. A cold rain fell throughout the game as the Indians dominated the play, never allowing the Elis to penetrate inside the Dartmouth 44.

The score might well have been higher than 9-0 but for two Dartmouth errors, a pass interception and a fumble. And despite the Green domination of the statistics the first half ended in a scoreless tie.

Dartmouth took the kick-off opening the second half, and again was unable to sustain a drive. Forced to punt the Indians' Tom Spangenberg sent the ball into the waiting arms of Yale's Henry Higdon on the Eli 20. The Yale left halfback was hit hard on the 27-yard line and fumbled. The wet slippery pigskin was immediately recovered by King on the 30.

The Indians then put together three first downs, including an 11-yard carry on a third-and-nine play by King, which set up a first-and-goal-to-go situation from the Eli 8-yard line. After three plays had netted only five yards, Dartmouth elected to go for a field goal, which Wellstead promptly kicked to make the score 3-0.

As the final period opened, Yale had the ball on the Dartmouth 44. A lateral in the Eli backfield misfired, however, and Spangenberg recovered the loose ball on the Yale 48. King, Parkinson, and Spangenberg did the major share of the ball-carrying as the Indians put together their best drive of the wet afternoon. King went the final eight yards on an end sweep that left nothing to chance.
