Take your favorite calendar and put a big circle around the date of March 25. That is the day that Dartmouth's Ambassadors Of Good Will And Musical Skill - the glee club - will be in Cleveland for an afternoon concert. This nationally acclaimed singing group has been visiting Cleveland on a somewhat bi-annual basis, and each visit has proven to be the highlight of that year's activities for our Club. Sunday concerts have posed somewhat of a problem for the Glee Club in years past, but seemingly, such is not the case here in Cleveland. A sell-out audience of Dartmouth alumni, their families, and friends greeted Paul Zeller and his group on a Sunday afternoon in the spring of 1960, and pretty much set the stage for future Sunday afternoon concerts throughout the country. Chairman Howard J. Markt '52 fully expects another capacity crowd at this year's concert, which is being held at the attractive Byron Junior High School auditorium. Aside from its beauty, this is one of the finest acoustically engineered auditoriums in the Cleveland area, which certainly will add to the enjoyment of an already popular event.
Howard has surrounded himself with capable men to insure the smooth operation of all details: Robert F. Meyerson '58 is in charge of all publicity, Walter E. GrevattJr. '52 is handling concert arrangements, Edouard A. Petrequin II '50 is responsible for the housing of glee club members, and George M. Kingsley Jr. '54 will arrange for ticket sales. The committee is urging everyone to place ticket orders promptly upon receiving the concerts mailings, so you won't be one of those who is disappointed when the "sold out" sign is inevitably posted.
Remember the date, Sunday, March 25; think about the time. 3:30 P.M.; be at the place, Byron Junior High School.
Our Club held its annual Christmas Luncheon on Wednesday, December 20, and it was a highly successful affair. H. RichardBucey '51 was in charge of this program and was pleased, I am sure, to see approximately a hundred applicants to the Dartmouth class of '66 and their fathers, along with another hundred alumni and undergraduates at the Sheraton-Cleveland Hotel. Club President William L. Ziegler '50 welcomed the guests on behalf of the local Club and introduced the guest speakers. EllwoodH. Fisher '21 extended greetings and good wishes to everyone from the Alumni Council.
Donald E. Kubit '64 spoke primarily to the applicants and their fathers in an effort to familiarize them with several aspects of the Dartmouth undergraduate life. His excellent humor mixed with a frank evaluation of the academic, social, and athletic life at Dartmouth was extremely well received by the entire group.
Charles F. (Doc) Dey '52, Assistant Dean of the College, spoke to the assembled multitude about the many problems that both the colleges and the applicant-students are facing today in a tremendously competitive era. He discussed what the colleges today are looking for in a boy, particularly Dartmouth, what he feels they should be looking for, and what a boy should be looking for in a college. It was an enlightening few minutes spent with a very impressive young dean. We will look forward to his next visit!
Following the formal program, a movie was shown of the Dartmouth campus and programs. The luncheon adjourned with everyone looking forward to a joyous holiday, and some one hundred applicants looking forward to that day in May when the College returns its verdict of yea or nay.
