On September 5 this Association held a picnic supper at Horseshoe Lake in Shaker Heights for those boys who would, in a few weeks, be making their first trip to Hanover. Twenty members of the up-and-coming class of '67 (Cleveland division) and a dozen alumni gathered for a relaxing evening, the main purpose of which was to enable the boys to become acquainted with one another and to ask last minute questions about Dartmouth. Paul Darling '66 was on hand to tell the boys what they could expect in the months to follow and to answer any and all questions. His informative talk helped set many an anxious mind at ease and set the pace for a very enlightening evening.

Saturday, September 21, was the big date on the Association's fall social calendar. This was the day of our Annual Tea Dance, the proceeds from which go to enrich our Scholarship Fund. Under the able direction of Peter Danford '58 this event was again a huge success with some two hundred people enjoying the facilities of the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club. Although cool weather kept the crowd indoors, the music was hot, and the alumni and their friends were most enthusiastic. For the first time a raffle was held at this event, and many wonderful prizes were handed out to the lucky ticket holders. All in all, it was a gay evening, and much credit is due to Pete and his committee of Tom Healy '56, J. H. Clinch '56,James Samartini '57, and Nathan Oakes '59.

This association mourns, the passing of its elder statesman, most enthusiastic supporter, and long time friend, John R. Childs '09. Shortly before his death on Friday, October 4. he attended our weekly luncheon meeting (as he did every Friday) and added greatly to the enjoyment of the occasion with his jokes and news of Dartmouth and Dartmouth men. He was the editor of what is probably the most complete class newsletter in existence, the '09 "Diddings," which had a circulation far and beyond the members of his class. We will remember him not only as a most loyal member of our group, but as a dear friend as well. So will his many Dartmouth friends around the country.
