Dear Gang:

Didn't you think Jack Whitman's "46 Tomahawk" news letter of January 15 was newsy and clever? We certainly did and we hope that many of you have already sent in your tentative reservation for fifteenth reunion June 15-17 in Hanover. As you read, the reunion theme is meeting "Frankly" - you'll hear more about "Frankly" later on and right now you're undoubtedly guessing about him??

UP THE LADDER

A nice letter this month from CharlieFortunato in Hartford, Conn., reporting he is in the life insurance business with Phoenix Mutual of Hartford. Charlie has been in the Phoenix's Home Office agency for eleven years and is specializing in Estate Analysis. He has just recently been appointed Training Director for the Hartford branch but will also continue to pursue sales efforts. Thanks for your nice note, Charlie.

A news release from New York announces that Thomas J. Lipton, Inc., the world famous tea and food concern, have made our own Edward M. "Bud" Scheu a director of that company. Bud joined the company in September of 1960 in the newly created position of Vice-President-Development, and in this capacity he is responsible for the development of new products and new product lines and acquisitions of product lines and companies. In prior issues we kept you informed of Bud's activities and before joining Lipton he was president of the Diamond Match Company division of Diamond National Corporation. Bud and Molly and their three children live at 5 Sylvan Lane in Old Greenwich and among other things Bud is a director of the Greenwich Community Chest and Council, a member of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club and the Rocky Point Club in Greenwich, and the Dartmouth College Club in New York. . . . The White Plains Herald recently carried a very interesting story about Sam Florman. Back in 1956 Sam joined the construction firm of Kreisler-Borg of White Plains as an estimator. Today, he is a vice-president and a full partner in a company that this year will do in excess of 8 million of construction volume. The company has grown fast and at the present time is completing a school in Yonkers, an office building in Bronxville, a synagogue in New Rochelle and an infirmary in Yonkers. Other contracts underway include an addition to Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx and apartment houses in Yonkers. The firm has also done a lot of school construction and other numerous large commercial construction including work for the Nuclear Development Corporation of America, the New York Telephone Company, and work on the Westchester Nike bases. As many of you know, Sam graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa and was winner of the Dartmouth Society of Engineers Prize. After school he received his commission in the Navy's Civil Engineer Corps and served on advance base construction in the Pacific; after that he received his master's degree at Columbia and worked for a company in Venezuela. He then spent five additional years for a large construction company before joining Kreisler-Borg. Congratulations, Sam - evidently you and your firm are doing an outstanding job....

Up in Milford, Mass., Joe Vitalini was co-chairman of the annual March of Dimes fund drive held in January. Under Joe's direction the drive has been the most successful fund campaign of all in the town of Milford in the past several years. Joe is owner of the Vita-Crete Co. there and among other things is vice-president of the St. Mary's Holy Name Society. You can write him at 7 West Pine Street, Milford, Mass. . . . Just as I was finishing up dictating this, who should stroll into my office but Robert "Bog" Bogart, the old Phi Gam from Toledo. I was on my way out and really didn't get a chance to say anything more than hello to "Bog" as he was in Dayton on a quick business trip. "Bog" was here to see the E. F. MacDonald Company (the sales incentive firm which headquarters here in Dayton) - Bog's firm sells to MacDonald. He looked good, and we plan to get together for lunch the next time he's down.

Classmate Bob Hailer was recently named sales manager for the box industry division of the Ludlow Corporation of Needham Heights, Mass., which manufactures textile, paper and plastic products. Prior to this new appointment Bob was director of advertising and public relations at Ludlow. Before joining the company in 1959 he was associated with the Kendall Company of Boston. Presently the Hailers and their two children live in Wellesley Hills, Mass.
