For those of you who saw Bud Scheu's picture in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE last month, let me tell you of the meteoric rise of our ex-soccer goalie turned "business tycoon". Actually the Mag said that Bud had been elected president of the Diamond Match Corporation - that isn't quite true, he was elected president of the Diamond Match Division of the newly merged Diamond-Gardiner Corporation. This still is a tremendous job and exceedingly responsible position to be held by one so young as Bud. After Bud got his degree, he joined Scott Paper and spent the next six or seven years with them learning the business up through the purchasing ranks. His last assignment with them was in Mobile, Ala., and in early 1957 he left to become a manufacturer's representative in the paper business. He evidently had caught the eye of the Diamond-Gardiner people because he was soon appointed as Assistant to the President of that corporation about a year ago. While Bud was covering the South for Scott Paper and later on his own, he was handling the territory in his own airplane. My reports have it that he still has a plane and that he and Molly have a beautiful home in Connecticut while "Cash McCall" commutes to the Big City. Bud was here in Dayton several months ago and "Gimp" Scharrer and Bob Huffman '47 saw him and got the complete history on his moves up the ladder - Wah Hoo Wah, Bud!
