March was a good month for the Southern California Club with visits from two prominent Hanoverians, George Colton '35, Director of Development for the College, and Dean Myron Tribus, our own transplanted Professor of Engineering at UCLA, now heading up Thayer School. A dinner meeting was held for George in the newly decorated Bavarian Room of The Cove, preceded by our customary quiet, subdued, gentlemanly cocktail hour. We made our bar minimum. Pleasure seeing Wendell Williams '34, after his trip to London and EdRamsey '35, newly returned from an extended continental tour. Wendell has developed a wonderfully nasal British accent and Ramsey complained all through dinner because the repast was not started with antipasto. Mr. Colton gave us a striking picture of Dartmouth today and a concise view of what the College can expect to be under current planning in the years ahead. A minority group adjourned to the Sheraton-West following the meeting and George was re-introduced to Red Nichols and his Five Pennies, an aggregation he hadn't heard since undergraduate days.
Dr. Tribus spoke at our regular monthly luncheon on March 30 and impressed a sparkling turn-out with the progress being made at the Thayer School of Engineering. This man is dynamic and left us feeling that Thayer is in good hands. The colored slides he presented of Dartmouth in winter left everyone here in Palmtreesville feeling very nostalgic. We were happy to have two senior Thayer men come out, Sam Hobbs '12 and Dan Lindsley '16. John Lyman '28 reported that our local scholarship is doing A-OK, but is in need of a broader base of con- tributors. This is our baby, so let's all get behind it. Don DesCombes '54 has done a fine job in his enrollment work and is to be commended for his managership of this most vital facet of our membership's endeavors. Dick Milliken '50 goofed another one paragraph story and wagered that Lavorante would defeat 01' Archie Moore. Very successful afternoon.
July 14 we will have a Bastille Day Party for members, wives, and friends, so keep the date available. July 14.
