Tom Davis recently returned from a five-month journey to Antarctica. Tom has been warming up for this type of experience during the last four summers in which he was employed by the Army Engineer Corps in Greenland as a civilian glaciologist. Because of his polar experiences and knowledge of survival in cold areas, Tom was selected by the National Science Foundation to join the U.S. Antarctic Research Program, better known as "Operation Deepfreeze," last October. After his service obligation is fulfilled, Tom is planning to continue his education with study toward a Doctorate in Geology.
Jerry Robinson has joined the staff of the American Press as an associate editor. Jerry gained his experience on the Somerville (N. J.) Messenger Gazette in their advertising department and then went on to become the head advertising manager of the Flemington (N. J.) Hunterdon County Democrat. With all that talent he should be writing this column. By the way, should any of you more prolific, devoted souls be so inclined I could arrange to make the change in about three minutes. (That's about how long it would take me to get over the shock!)
A note from Paul Stein reveals that he and Ann are living in Nancy, France where Paul is stationed at Toul-Rosieres Air Base with the Missouri Air National Guard. Aside from a few pleasant journeys around continent, they are finding the military life to be a poor existence. Paul was thoughtful enough to enclose a letter from Tom Seessel. Tom is presently passing away his time as an exec and navigator of an ocean-going tug which is home-ported in Norfolk. During the past few months they have been salvaging grounded ships along the Jersey coastline. As soon as Uncle sees fit to relieve him of his duties, Tom plans to enter Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School.
Tom Lennox is now going to the University of Free Berlin. From the end of February to the first of April, between semesters, Tom traveled around Europe by thumb.
The appointment of Dick Liesching as executive secretary of the American Life of Wilmington, Del., has been announced. Dick will be stationed in the foreign head office of the company in Bermuda.
Van Pine recently announced the opening of Pine Memorials, a new monument and memorial center in New Paltz, N. Y.
On the lighter side we find that the spark of love is still igniting our classmates. Altar bound are Howie Munro and Estelle Isherwood. A June wedding is planned after Howie has graduated from Harvard Medical School. Harvey Galper and Alice Rosen have also taken the first step down the road to matrimony. Harvey is presently a candidate for his Ph.D. in economics at Yale. Al Gilburg, a student at Union Theological Seminary, has chosen Alice Hurst to be his bride this spring. Another Harvard Medical student, Don Miller, has become engaged to Sandra Beck.
