We welcome Shirley Cunningham to the Executive Board of our class. He is taking over the writing of the 1905 Reporter, outclass letter, thus relieving Roger Brown of one duty. You know that Roger is now serving as both Class Agent and Treasurer. Though Shirley lives far from the Boston area, where so many of our men are located, no one keeps in better touch with the men of '05 than does he.
Our heart-felt sympathy goes to C.C. Hills in the passing of his wife. Isabel had endured the long ordeal of ebbing physical strength with remarkable cheerfulness and fortitude. Everyone who knew her, loved her.
We are very happy to learn from Shirley that Louise Cunningham received a favorable report from her doctor in Mary Hitchcock Hospital. They are safely back in the salubrious climate of New Mexico. We were sorry not to have seen them on their way back and forth, but Roger and Jane Brown, in Hanover for the Brown game, did have a nice visit with them.
Death came as a release to Lyon Weyburn on October 7 after a long, severely crippling illness. Though he left Dartmouth at the end of his sophomore year for Yale, he never lost interest in his former Alma Mater.
Wallace Ross '09 presented me with a delightful surprise: a picture of the famous '03 football team that christened the Harvard Stadium, and another of the noble class of 1905. These were clipped from the 1906 Aegis. For the Small World Department: Wallace's daughter "Tink" lives with her husband, Henry Poor, here in Montclair. The latter is Headmaster of Montclair Academy and she is a graduate of Mt. Holyoke, and so associated with Mildred. They are both delightful friends of ours.
Tempus (does) fugit! "Ike" Maynard has great-grandchildren old enough to enjoy the new swimming pool that has been installed at their home.
Dick and Mabel Tolman celebrated his birthday (age on request) by taking a trip through New Hampshire and Vermont when the brilliance of the fall foliage was at its height. They expect to leave for Florida, December 8.
I hope you did not fail to read the letter of our Bequest Chairman, Huston Lillard, with enclosures - very interesting reading.
The gift of Wallace Ross, mentioned above, was very timely, as this year marked the 60th anniversary of the celebrated game. Fred Chase attended the luncheon at the Algonquin Club in Boston before the Harvard game. There were present members of the classes of '04, '05, '06, '07 and it was presided over by Walter Powers '06. Three members of the team itself were there and were honored: Captain Myron Witham and Matt Bullock '04, and our "Lil" Lillard. May I add incidentally that Mildred and I had the pleasure of entertaining Fred in our home about a week before that event.
Class Secretary Harry Johnson '04 inVero Beach, Fla., with the Norfolk IslandPine, "Araucaria excelsa," presented tohim by admiring classmates two years ago.
