The Second Informal Fall Reunion was held in Hanover the weekend of October 18. The accent was on informality and classmates and families met and leisurely did as they pleased. When we arrived at the Norwich Inn Friday evening, we were greeted by Frank and Pedie Foster, and their son, Whitney, who were dining before the evening concert. We took a table next to Bingand Marge Carter who were sampling the filet mignon. Blinker and Kathryn Black came in, all the way from Guadalajara, Mexico, where Blinker has been spending his time grinding corn for Corn Products Refining Co. He looks fit enough to still carry the ball for Dartmouth. During the course of the evening, we were joined by Bill and Kay Andres, Fred Armstrong, Duke and Horty Barto, Jack and Cynthia Blair, Charlie Dudley, Jack and Gerry Gunther, and Cart and Molly Strickland. In the morning, Walt and Marion Wilson and daughter, Nancy, showed up for the Vermont country sausage and pan fried potatoes. During the course of the day, at luncheon, the Dartmouth-Holy Cross football game, and the Class supper in the Tavern Room of the Hanover Inn, we met up also with Trunkie and Ruth Brittan, Cappy and Leona Capalbo, Al and Gertrude Bellerose, Eddie Deans, Eddie and Polly Chinlund, Ellie and Marj Cavanagh, Johnnie and Virginia Cornehlsen, Ev and Helen Buckley, Karl and Doris Michael, Art and Esther Nighswander, and Earl Lister. John and Chris Dickey were seen at the game entertaining distinguished guests. We also saw Millard and MargTucker and Phil Fitzpatrick at the game. It is reported that Johnnie Calver, Johnnie Davis and Al Downing were among the cheering throngs. No doubt, there were others, but there are limits to our reportorial capacities. It was a weekend full of good fellowship.
The following Saturdays at the Harvard Stadium and the Yale Bowl brought together additional sports of the class, to wit: Dick and Mary Barrett, Nelson Bell, Chris and Jane Born, Bud and Lynn Foulks, Wen Barney, Frank Middleton, Ed Spetnagel, Phil and Alice Mayher, Dud and Gene Orr, John and Adelaide Quebman, Henry Schutte, Eddie and Betty Walsh, Gus and Peggy Wiedenmayer, Paul and Janet Woodbridge, Allen and Meta Benjamin, and Bill and Polly Magenau. Again, these are the additional Twenty-Niners who came within our orbit in the crowded stands.
The Executive Committee meeting was held at the Dartmouth Club of New York at 5:00 P.M., November 1. Present were Messrs. Andres, Blair, Benjamin, Brittan, Carter, Chinlund, Gunther, Morgan, Swope, Wiedenmayer, Woodbridge, and your scribe. Bill Andres submitted his resignation as Chairman of the Class because of his election as a Trustee of the College. The following officers were duly elected: Jack Blair as Chairman of the Class; Cart Strickland as Vice-Chairman; Fred Ingram, as Treasurer, and Eddie Chinlund, as Class Agent. Jack Blair assumed the Chair. The Secretary's minutes were waived and Ed Chinlund's reports as Treasurer and as Class Agent were rendered and highly approved. The treasury is solvent with 300 members having paid their dues. 375 members of the Class contributed $41,849 to the Alumni Fund. Tribute was paid to the fine work of Eddie Chinlund in these capacities and it was voted to extend to him the deep appreciation of the Class. Jack Gunther reported as Bequest Chairman that 30 members of the Class have made provisions in their wills for Dartmouth College. Votes of appreciation were extended to Jack for his services as Bequest Chairman and to Trunkie Brittan for his acceptance of the duties as Reunion Chairman. It was voted to contribute the sum of $5OO to the Memorial Fund and to continue the unit subscription to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. It was also voted to transfer to the Memorial Fund the principal balance of $66.17 and accumulated interest in the account at the Newton Savings Bank. The annual Class dues were voted in the sum of $7.00. TrunkieBrittan reported that rooms are unavailable in Hanover for an informal reunion the weekend of the Princeton game next fall. Accordingly, he was authorized to consider the feasibility of holding such a reunion the weekend of the Yale game. Bing Carter generously offered the facilities of his Motel and restaurant at Milford, Conn. The suggestion of Duke Barto to plant a tree in Hanover each year was taken under advisement. The Chairman will consult with BobMonahan, the College Forester. The meeting adjourned at 6:15 P.M.
Ray Hedger and John Comehlsen arranged a Class Dinner at the Dartmouth Club the evening of November 1. EddieWalsh performed as toastmaster in his inimitable story-telling style. Bill Andres delivered his swan song which came from the heart and Jack Blair gave his maiden speech as Chairman. Gathered around the festive table were Bill and Kay Andres, Jack Ackley, Russell Ayers, Al and Meta Benjamin, Jack and Cynthia Blair, Chris and Jane Born, Trunkie Brittan and his daughter, Paula, Bing Carter, Ed and Polly Chinlund, John Cornehlsen, Herb Fish, Bud and Lynn Foulks, Jack and Gerry Gunther, Ray Hedger, Paul and Mary Jameson, Bill Morgan, Jerry and Mary Swope, Gus and Peggy Wiedenmayer, Paul Woodbridge, and Squeek and Ret Redding.
