The nation's longest major college football winning streak came to an end on the turf of Harvard Stadium, 17-13. The luck which on three of the first four weekends had been on the side of the Indians ran out. Coach Blackman was the first to admit that the Indians made too many mental mistakes.

At the outset it appeared the Indians might jump out to an early two-touch down lead, but they were able to capitalize on only one of two Harvard errors. On Harvard's first play from scrimmage, guard Ted Bracken intercepted the Crimson pass on Harvard's 26-yard line. The first Green score came several plays later as Kelly on a roll out pattern passed to halfback Jack McLean in the end zone. Gary Wilson's extra point made the score 7-0.

Again the Crimson lost the ball, on a fumble recovered by McLean on the Harvard 36, but the Harvard defense stiffened and yielded only nine yards. This may well have been the turning point, for the Green did not threaten again until late in the fourth period.

On the second play of the third quarter, a Dartmouth pass was intercepted on the Green 35. Two plays later Harvard halfback Scott Harshbarger broke through the Dartmouth secondary and went all the way for the first running touchdown to be scored against the Green this year. The Crimson's extra point tied the score.

Two fumbles killed any chance of Dartmouth getting back in the game. The second, on the Green 28, was the more costly. On third down Crimson quarterback Bill Humenuck passed to his right end Frank Ulcickas and Dartmouth was behind 14-7. In the fourth period a Kelly pass intended for Captain Scott Creelman was intercepted on the Harvard 36, and from there the Crimson began a drive that led to a field goal and a clinching three points.

With time fast running out, Kelly engineered a 74-yard drive. Two pass interference penalties helped the Dartmouth cause, however, the second one coming in the end zone and giving the Green the ball on the Harvard one. Kelly bucked over the center of the line for the T.D. A try for a two-point conversion was no good, and the Indians found themselves four points behind with only three minutes left to play. The ensuing onside kick was pounced upon by a Harvard lineman and any chance the Green had of rallying faded.

The final statistics showed Dartmouth with only 56 yards rushing and 100 yards passing, as compared to 275 yards total offense for Harvard. Dartmouth had a total of three passes intercepted and lost the ball twice on fumbles. Even harder to take was the loss of end Charlie Greer and fullback Tom Parkinson, hurt on Harvard's third-period touchdown play.

Chris Vancura (21) tries to find a hole in the Harvard line and runs into the toughdefense that helped to end the Big Green's 15-game winning streak.
