The hockey team finished strong despite a 7-6 loss to Princeton. It was victorious in four out of five contests going into the Princeton finale. Brown was beaten twice, 7-6 and 6-5, while Northeastern succumbed to the Green 11-3 and New Hampshire was edged for the mythical state title, 7-6. The one loss during that interval was inflicted by Yale, which came from behind to upset the Indians 8-5.
In the Princeton game the Green led 4-0 at the end of the first period, only to see the Tigers roar back with three points early in the second period. Goals by Bob Tucker and Jack Phelan moved the Green out in front again 6-3, but another Princeton goal made the score 6-4 as the period ended. Two quick Tiger tallies early in the final period tied the score and John Cook took full advantage of a penalty, which put Warren Loomis in the box, to notch the winning goal.
In this final game Dave Leighton had one goal and one assist to clinch Ivy League scoring honors. The junior wing had sixteen goals and twelve assists for 28 points in ten games. For the season he had 55 points on 36 goals and nineteen assists. Other high scorers for the season included Phelan with 43 points and Derek Buntain with 32. Buntain had been moved up to the first line at midseason in a switch which paid dividends.
When the official All-Ivy Hockey Team was selected, the coaches had no trouble in finding a spot for Leighton on the first team. Captain Tom Cranna earned a place on the second All-Ivy team at defense.
