"Today's Indian Battleground" or "Red Man Is Scalping White Man," such was the subject at this month's luncheon meeting at the University Club. Mr. Allen Mitchem, Attorney at Law and former Minority Counsel for the Senate Committee on Interior Affairs, was our speaker for the day. It seems the latter day Indians are capitalizing on their heritage in a big way, and the budget for Indian Affairs is a gigantic one indeed. Everytime Congress attempts to cut the Indian allotment every major tribe in America turns up at the hearing ready to scalp any Congressman who dares to think of such thrift. The Red Man's lobby is a potent one indeed. Certainly a fascinating story and one facet of the budget little heard of and even less understood by the poor tax payer. This lesson is one which can be considered apropos the season.

The enrollment committee is making great progress and interviews are underway. We are happy to report that Neil F. Roberts '35, has been renominated for his second term as Alumni Council representative from our district.

And so passed the month of January in the area of the great divide. Now off for some skiing while this report wends its way toward Hanover.
